The Alien Swarm Parasite is an unlockable headgear item for all Classes. It is obtained by earning the Hat Trick achievement in the game Alien Swarm by completing 2 co-op missions (regardless of difficulty setting) online. You will recieve the item in-game after a death like other items in the game.
Trivia
Hat Trick Achievement Icon
- This is the second hat that appears to be a living creature, the other being the Triboniophorus Tyrannus.
- This hat is the first item to be unlocked via the achievements of another game.
- This hat was speculated days before the game was even released due to the Heavy appearing on the icon for the Hat Trick achievement.
- This hat looks much like a facehugger from the Alien franchise or a headcrab, parasitic enemy from the Half-Life series, also made by Valve, though it does not seem to hinder the player in any way, like in Alien or Half-life 2.
- This hat will split into two whenever someone wearing it dies; this also happens in Alien Swarm where if the player dies from infection, the parasite splits into two or three, depending on the difficulty.
- It doesn't fit the spy.
- If you taunt with the Sniper's Kukri,Shiv or Bushwacka the Sniper will pull the parasite off of his head, before putting it back on - not a particularly clever idea if the hat is indeed alive.
- Along with the Sniper's melee taunt on the alien, its tail moves slightly to its right while on the Sniper's chest. The tail goes back to its rigid status once it goes back onto the Sniper's head.
- The Heavy wears his parasite hat differently in-game than on the Hat Trick achievement icon.
- This is the only promotional hat without a limited supply.
- When clicked in the backpack this hat makes the sound of an actual Alien Swarm Parasite, instead of the sound played by selecting a regular hat.
- If you shoot a bullet in the parasite hat, you will see a bullet wound on it.
- It is one of the few hats that is jiggleboned.
- There is a Vintage version of the hat, which belongs to a user that shall remained unnamed.
- Strangely, many believe if you paint it, it becomes worth less than a plain parasite.
- When trading this hat is worth 2-3 Reclaimed metal or 12-18 Weapons because of its large supply. (46.96% of players own one of these)
