General Description
Ammo (ammunition) is a resource found on every official map and most custom maps that contributes to a player's amount of ammunition in their firearm or Metal for an Engineer. Ammo is universal, meaning that ammo from any gun can be used in any other gun. An example would be that ammo acquired from a dropped Flamethrower will still be usable as Sniper rifle ammo. This also means that the amount of ammo in a pick-up is applied to both your Primary and Secondary weapons, not just the one you currently have equipped. You cannot reload if you don't have any ammo. If you expend your clip and reserve ammo, your weapon will be automatically unequipped and switched to another, and not be selectable until more ammo is obtained.
Ammo can be gathered in one of many ways:
- Weapons dropped from dead opponents: (refills half of max ammo)
- Toolbox dropped from dead Engineers: (refills ammo fully)
- Small Ammo Pickup: Refills 20.3% of each weapon's ammo capacity (10 sec re-spawn) (Slightly less than one quarter.) (item_ammopack_small)
- Medium Ammo Pickup: Refills half (50%) of each weapon's ammo capacity (10 sec re-spawn) (item_ammopack_medium)
- Large Ammo Pickup: Refills all (100%) of each weapon's ammo capacity (10 sec re-spawn) (item_ammopack_full)
- An Engineers Dispenser: Refills ammunition at a rate close to 20.3% per second. (Hostile dispensers also give ammo and health if you are a disguised Spy)
- Resupply lockers (Refills to maximum ammo for any weapon as well as refilling your current magazine)
