Bill's Hat is a headwear item available to all classes. It appears as a slightly worn brown (RED) or gray (BLU) beret with a yellow shield insignia. It was awarded to players who pre-ordered Valve title Left 4 Dead 2 on Steam.
Trivia
- This is the same hat that zombie apocalypse survivor Bill wears in the original Left 4 Dead, rendered in the Team Fortress 2 art style.
- Bill's hat has its own intricate back-story, which reads as follows: "While conducting a science experiment on parallel dimensions, Bill's hat fell off a table into the Team Fortress universe."[1]
- Although Bill wears a green beret, the hat is either brown or gray depending on the wearer's team.
- Hat-Wearing Man published an article titled "Wearing Berets: Not on our Watch! How You Can Help...". It seems the teams didn't take their suggestions to heart.
- Bill's hat appears in the backpack as a 'Level 10 Veteran's Beret'.
- The textures for this hat are in the same folder as the Demoman's, suggesting that a beret was originally going to be an unlockable hat for the Demoman.
- It is also possible that Valve modeled Bill's Hat using the Glengarry bonnet as a template, a Demoman hat that somewhat resembles Bill's Hat in shape. Afterward, they may have simply forgotten or neglected to move the texture files.
- The logo on the hat is not exactly correct to the original in Left 4 Dead.
