Bonk! is fulla radiation, which as we all know is pretty great for givin' people superpowers.

Bonk! Atomic Punch is an unlockable secondary weapon for the Scout awarded after obtaining 22 of the Scout achievements. The drink provides temporary invincibility, during which, the Scout cannot attack, pick up the intelligence or capture or block points. In addition, his view is forced into third-person mode. When any of type of bullet or projectile hits a running Scout during the drink's effects, a "Miss!" effect will appear above his head. Sentry guns will not damage a Scout under the influence of Bonk!, but he will still experience knockback. If a Scout is set on fire while he drinks Bonk!, he will not take damage from further flamethrower attacks or from the original fire, but if the fire persists until after the effects of Bonk! wear off, he will resume being damaged by the flames. The Scout has unlimited Bonk! cans, but cannot take out another can until his cooldown period is over. Note that you cannot use Bonk! while carrying the intelligence, or grab the intelligence under the effect of Bonk!. The Same applies to Control Points and Payload carts. It is possible to be soaked with Jarate while under the effect of Bonk!, but it will only affect the damage you take after Bonk!'s effects have worn off. Since the Polycount Pack + Trade System update (September 30, 2010) the Scout automatically switches to his melee weapon for the duration of Bonk! Atomic Punch.

Trivia

  • The ingredients of Bonk! are water, radiation and sugar. (Cherry fission also lists radioactive isotopes)
  • BONK!'s ingredients do not list any artificial or natural flavoring, making it uncertain as to how the drink is cherry/ blueberry flavored
  • RED's flavor of Bonk! is "Cherry Fission", while the BLU version is "Blutonium Berry".
  • Cherry Fission claims to have isotopes, while Blutonium Berry has 33% more real radiation.
  • An active adult's daily recommended sugar intake is around 90g. Assuming the drink really contained the advertised "several hundred times" worth of daily recommended sugar, the can's contents would have to weigh at least 0.9 kg-9 kg, about 20lbs.
  • The Sandman's Bonk (Taunt) is the only attack the Scout can perform during the invulnerability period of Bonk! Atomic Punch.
  • The concept of Bonk! is that it gives the player using it the ability to "dodge" all forms of damage, however if you are hit with a Huntsman arrow, you won't take damage as normal but the arrow will remain shot through the Scout's body like Huntsman arrows would normally react.
  • Until the April 28, 2010 Patch, Bonk! Atomic Punch had a slowdown period after the effects wore off, making the Scout 56% slower than his base speed, wearing him out. The patch traded in the slowdown period in favor of a time limit before you can use it again, similar to the Sandman. This is still referenced on its page in the Scout Update, and the achievement 'Retire the Runner' originally involved killing a Scout who was under the effect of this slowdown (now it is to kill a Scout under the effects of Crit-A-Cola).
  • By holding down primary fire while Bonk! Atomic Punch is still active, a player is able to fire their weapon the moment Bonk! wears off. The player's weapon will not play its firing animation for the first shot.
  • The Bonk! Atomic Punch is one of two drinkable items with an effect after drinking it, the other being Crit-A-Cola.
  • The Bonk! Atomic Punch makes the scout the only class exposed to large doses of radiation; how he survives is unknown.
  • The Scout Update page that revealed Bonk! Atomic Punch features a morning version of the third stage of plr_pipeline in the background. This was 3 months before the Payload Race game mode was even introduced.
  • Since this drink contains radiation, it may show that the scout may have radiation poisoning or be radioactive as a side effect.
