Server Load Sorry I had to block everyone from the site. This was temporary, and done to try and produce better response times overall.

I've been trying to determine what exactly is causing the load spikes (and thus slow responses) on tf2wiki.net. Obviously its a very popular site, but the server its running on should be handling more than it is. I've done some tweaking to mediawiki to reduce the load, and I'm trying some other meausres as well, like removing the map images from the front page. The front page is by far the most loaded page on the site. With the 9 map images, the site was sending approximatley 474K for each request, which is a bit extreme. Removing the map images dropped that to 360K. I'll keep an eye on things, and we may have to do something similar for the character images. I'm definitely open to suggestions, but reducing the images (both in size and number) will definitely help things. -- Nos 1 May 2008 (CST)

Friendly URLs I'm in the process of setting up friendly URLs. This will (hopefully) take effect sometime today. Then, URLs like http://tf2wiki.net/wiki/pyro should work. I just need the server administrator to make a small change to apache to allow me to write the redirects. It is working on my testing site. update: its working! -- Nos 15 October 2007

Server Migration

I moved the server to a more robust hosting environment for a couple of reasons. One, it was starting to put a small load on my home server occasionally. I wasn't really concerned about that, except for the fact that it might slow down page loads for people using the site. I had planned on upgrading my home server at some point in the near future, but the site grew a little faster than I could respond. The second reason was that we could soon be hosting custom maps. Disk space certainly wasn't an issue, but bandwidth certainly could have become one. Its now on a much faster line, and bandwidth shouldn't be an issue at all.
