The Football Helmet is an unlockable headwear item for the Heavy. It appears as a plastic, team-colored football helmet with a yellow stripe down the center and a one-bar facemask. It does not offer additional protection of any kind to the Heavy wearing it.

Trivia

• The Heavy's football helmet could be seen before it was officially announced in Meet the Spy. At 0:53, in the scene where the BLU Scout is spinning the Knife, the helmet can be seen on a filing cabinet in the background.[1]

• The icon for the Soviet Block achievement features a football helmet.

• The modern hard plastic version of the football helmet was created by Paul Brown.

• The one-bar facemask design has been illegal in the National Football League since 2004, with an exception for players who wore this style of facemask before the rule was enacted. Punter Scott Player is the last player to wear the one-bar facemask.

• People with mental disabilities often wear helmets to prevent further brain damage and other injuries from falling down. This could be a tounge-in-cheek reference to the Heavy's seeming lack of intelligence.
