— The Engineer on caring for inanimate objects.

The Gunslinger is a Wrench replacement for the Engineer unlocked after completing 17 Engineer Achievements. It was announced on Day 4 of the Engineer Update .
The Gunslinger appears as a robotic fist. It allows the Engineer to perform a combo attack, in which the third strike to the same target with the fist becomes an automatic critical hit. The Gunslinger also gives the Engineer an extra 25 max health, boosting his max up to 150 and making him a considerably more offensive class.
Using the Gunslinger allows the Engineer to build Combat Mini-Sentry Guns instead of the standard Sentry Gun. These Mini-sentries only take 2.5 seconds to build, and cost only 100 metal each, but cannot be upgraded or repaired, and only deals half of a normal level 1 Sentry Gun's damage. Despite not being repairable, Mini-sentries may still have ammo resupplied to them.
Taunting with the Gunslinger will make the Engineer's robotic hand turn into a spinning cutter that stuns and kills. This gives the Engineer 2 ways to taunt kill, the other being with the Frontier Justice.

Trivia
- The Gunslinger is the only melee weapon to gain crits via hit succession.
- The Gunslinger, Spleendid Screen, and the Chargin' Targe are the only weapons that can be seen on other viewmodels than itself, as the robotic fist can be seen holding all of the Engineer's other weapons.
- The Gunslinger, as with the Frontier Justice and the Wrangler, appears to have been designed by Radigan Conagher, the Engineer's ancestor. This is shown by a hidden link in the Engineer Update. It also appears to be placed over the mangled stump of Radigan and the Engineer's arms. Valve's own blog post furthered this.
- The Gunslinger is more or less a reincarnation of the P.D.Q. item from the closed beta, both sharing the ability to build sentries faster, but are unable to upgrade them.
- When equipped, The Gunslinger appears to replace the Engineer's entire hand, not just simply worn over it. On the Team Fortress blog it is implied that the Engineer sawed his own hand off to use it.
- The Gunslinger is displayed on the Engineer's right hand, which on the non-Gunslinger model is covered by a rubber glove, possibly having hidden the robotic hand all along.
- The Gunslinger bears a resemblance to the metal glove worn by Ashley J. Williams, who replaced the chainsaw previously used in the two previous prequels on his own right hand with said metal glove in the third film Army of Darkness.
- A possible blueprint of the Gunslinger can be seen in the background of the 27-second teaser at 0:10.
- A Spy disguised as an Engineer with the Gunslinger will not copy the Gunslinger and the hand will remain gloved. This can serve as an obvious Spy indication.
- It is worth noting that the hidden link in the Engineer Update showing Radigan Conagher with the Gunslinger shows him with it on his left arm. However, the Engineer wears it on his right. Whether the Engineer built his Gunslinger himself, or if Radigan created the right handed one as a matching set is unconfirmed.
- The Gunslinger is able to repair/upgrade most friendly buildings just as well as the Wrench or its incarnates, but the Combat Mini-Sentry cannot be repaired/upgraded by anybody, regardless of the weapon they have equipped.
- The Gunslinger is also one of the only weapons so far to have a significantly different swimming animation, in which, when pulled out, the Engineer uses both hands to propel himself through the water, rather than just holding out his right hand in front of him like he would with a gun, however, this is only visible from other players or from a thirdperson view.
- The Engineer sawed off his right hand to use the Gunslinger.
