Head-up display

The Head-up display, or HUD, is a system for quickly relaying important information to the user. The "Head-up display" takes its name from the real-life version pioneered in fighter jets and military helicopters, designed to centralize critical information within the field of vision [1].

  • Your Health
  • Your current class
  • The locations and status of the Intelligence briefcases (depicted by a rotating arrow, and one of three status indicators: dropped, absent and present) and the current score
  • The status of the Capture points on the map (untaken, neutral, capturing, or locked)
  • Your Ammo (currently loaded / total rounds carried)
  • Your currently selected weapon
  • Your crosshair
  • The time left in the match (accompanied by a pie chart)
  • Recent kills (displayed in the top right with names and icons showing method of death)
  • Voice chat (displays along with a player's name in the middle right to show when they are using voice chat)

Class Specific

Demoman

The number of currently placed Sticky bombs and charge

  • Sticky bomb charge. This takes the form of a small bar beneath your Ammo display which fills up when you hold the fire button to determine the distance by which your Sticky bombs are launched. If you reach full charge, it will fire automatically.
  • Currently placed Sticky bombs (appears to the left of your ammo panel)

Engineer

  • Metal count (appears to the left of your Ammo panel)
  • Engineer panel (displays information about your various buildings) The number of health bars (lit or unlit) shown for each structure depends on the horizontal resolution in the client's video settings.
    • Sentry gun status (displays Health, Ammo, number of kills and whether or not your turret is being sapped or is in need of repair)
    • Dispenser status (displays Health, Metal stock and whether or not your Dispenser is being sapped or is in need of repair)
    • Teleporter status (displays Health, number of times used and whether or not your Teleporter/s are being sapped or are in need of repair. There are individual panels for your entrance and exit)

Medic

  • ÜberCharge meter (appears in place of the Ammo panel when you have the Medigun equipped. It shows the progress of your charge and flashes when it is ready. When the ÜberCharge is activated, it shows you the charge you have left before your meter resets)
  • All nearby friendly (and Spy) calls for medical assistance

Sniper

  • Shot charge (appears to the right of your crosshair. Fills over time when scoped with the Sniper rifle and determines the power of your shot)

Spy

  • Your current Disguise (this appears over your own class picture)
  • The charge on your Cloak
  • Your cloaking visibility (the translucency of your class/disguise picture changes to reflect this)
  • The health of currently sapped buildings.
