Healing

Healing is an ability possessed by the Medic class while using either of his secondary weapons. By training the healing beam on an ally (or a disguised Spy!), the Medic can actively restore the health of allies who are damaged, on fire or under attack. Note that the Medic cannot heal buildings, which must be repaired using the Engineer's wrench. This could be considered a form of healing.
The Engineer's Dispenser, and the payload on payload-base maps also heal nearby teammates. Medical packs are also found throughout the levels and can heal instantly.
When a Medic heals a target, causing their HP to rise above the default amount, this is known as an overheal or 'buff'.
In addition to restoring health, healing also enables the Medic to fill up his ÜberCharge bar.
