General Description

Barn is king of the hill map for TF2.

Goal

The idea is to capture the central control point and keep it captured for 5 minutes to win.

The following text is taken from the custom mission briefing included in the map file:

KING OF THE HILL

Objective:
Capture and defend "The Hill" from the enemy team.  First team to hold "The Hill" for a total of five minutes wins.

Note:
- The timer displayed in the HUD is for the team who currently holds "The Hill"
- If the opposing team takes "The Hill" from your team, your timer WILL RESET.
- The enemy only wins win their timer reaches zero.

The Barn

This is the main barn area. There are random items scattering the floor including pipes, boxes and metal beams. There is a control point in the centre and each of the spawn rooms and all the props are rotated 180 about the control point so that each end is a mirror image.

Coming off from the main barn area there are two spawn points directly adjacent to the main area. There are also a sniper deck above each spawn room. There is a small room to the side and a cellar underneath.

Cellar

The cellar is underneath the main barn area. There are entrances to the cellar from each spawn point and stairs down to the cellar from the side room. There is a full health and a full ammo in the cellar.

Side Room

The side room is a place for sentries and there is also a medium health and a medium ammo here. There is also a set of stairs leading to the cellar.

Sniper decks

There is a small "battlement" for snipers (and other classes) above each spawn room. All the defending team can reach this gantry from the spawn room, however only soldiers (from rocket jumping), demomen (sticky jumping) and scouts (from double-crouch jumping from the pipes or the barrel).

Common Strategies

Classes

This map is very popular with soldiers, scouts and snipers. However heavy/medic (or heavy/pyro) team is quite effective.

Scouts

Scouts are good for rushing the control point. However they are also useful for taking out snipers on the battlements.

Soldiers

Soldiers can also take out snipers on the battlements however they are slightly slower so they might not get close enough. Soldiers are also better at fighting in the main area of the barn, so are a popular choice.

Snipers

Although most of the angles have been covered in this map; snipers are still a popular choice because they can provide good defence.

Engineers

Engineers tend not to be a popular choice as it is quite hard to find a good sentry spot. The side room was meant to be a place for sentries however it is not too successful as any knowledgeable demoman can take out the sentry from the cellar.
