General Description

Mario Kart is a team deathmatch map with a Mario Kart theme, somewhat resembling elements of design from the Mario Circuit and Donut Plains tracks of the original game released in 1992. This map features a circular track with various moving vehicles on the road, and a large building in the center of the map often referred to as the "disco room". There are several posters and signs around the map containing in-jokes (or memes) from the 4chan community. Because of the off-beat nature of the map, it usually attracts troublemakers (often speedhackers and VOIP spammers).

Developer

Xenon

Goal

There is no control point or intelligence to capture, the main goal of the map is to accumulate points by killing enemy team members. Because of this, Sniper, Scout, Engineer and Demoman are favored classes - although it is possible for one to hone their skills on this map using whatever class they like.

Locations

Spawns

The spawn buildings located diagonally opposite each other on the map, it is possible to place buildings near the door. It is also possible for any class to base themselves on the roof of each spawn, sometimes preventing the other team from leaving the spawn.

Vehicles

Vehicles of all kinds can be found moving around the track at varied speeds. There are 3 racing cars, a motorcycle, the 4chan partyvan, the Metal slug, and 2 large catbusses all usually moving counterclockwise around the circuit. There is around a 10% chance you will spawn in your team's catbus. These vehicles can be controlled by using the Use key, as mentioned in the readme file.

Disco room

There is a large building in the centre of the map often referred to as the "disco room". It consists of a large room with a stage, five track pillars, and windows that overlook the rest of the track. There are benches and water-coolers around the perimeter of the room, supposedly for spectators to sit and watch the entertainment outside. The room offers no health or ammo pickups. The two teams usually fight for control over this room by building sentries - even though it gains them no superior advantage.

The five tracks that can be played by hitting the pillars (from left to right) are:

  • Super Mario Kart - Battle BGM
  • Super Mario Kart - Mario Circuit BGM
  • An unknown Super Mario Kart Drum & Bass Remix
  • F-Zero X - Mute City Theme
  • Ministry - Jesus Built My Hotrod

Pipes

There are 2 green pipes, the one nearest the red base can be climbed up to (by pressing jump, then crouch). Jumping into the pipe launches you out of the other pipe. This is favoured by BLU snipers as it offers a direct view at RED's spawn point.

Common Strategies

  • There is no overall goal in the map except kill everyone on the other team, and cause as much multiplayer mayhem as possible!
  • You can place buildings near the doors inside the spawn. Building a sentry in your spawn point is useful against spawn campers (people who wait at your spawn point to kill you). The door will open and they will get killed instantly with a level 3 sentry. However, this makes the sentries venerable from any class who can fire just out of range for the sentry, unless you plan on staying at base, the sentry's destruction is inevitable.
  • One common strategy is to dominate the roof of the Music Room. To do this, an engineer needs to enlist the help of an enemy demoman to lay down sticky grenades and ride the explosion up to the roof, then build teleporters to help classes such as snipers, soldiers, demomen, and other engineers reach the top. A medic with an uber is required.
  • Use the vehicles as cover, they are useful for avoiding enemy fire. However, if someone notices your presence, your cover is as good as blown.
  • Snipers are favored on this map, but they are highly vunerable to scouts, spies, other sniper and any other class able to get close enough to them, but mainly just those three in particular.
  • Using Demoman, it is possible to ride the explosion of some sticky grenades to the top of the disco building will allow you a perfect opportunity to be spam sticky mines and grenades. Just be cautious about snipers since you will have minimal health. It is also possible to scale the building with the soldier.

Memes

By request, here's a list of them.

Name Info Screenshot
X? In My Y? Born from an obscure pop-up that can apparently knows the what's what of pornography. 1
360 kid He originated from a sales flier which featured his opinion on the Xbox 360, that being "The great thing about the 360 isn't beating the games, it's showing everyone online that I did," and thus the avid gamer group that populates the video game discussion figured it was a very silly thing to say. 1
Cat Bus A character from My Neighbor Totoro, seen before in a flash animation loop to daft punk's "Robot Rock". 1
Slowpoke A Pokemon that is renown for ... being slow. That usually includes an avalanche skit where a poster would react in shock to an old event, then carry on discussion about hopes that another scenario doesn't take place. (Which by now, it did.) Until slowpoke ends satisfied. Another take is when a poster will create an image storyboard usually over-dramatizing slowpoke's speed which is followed by an abrupt punchline, often slowpoke not understanding the situation. Another rare case is when slowpoke achieves something that requires speed, but this is often just new users who are doing it wrong. 1
Mudkip Another Pokemon meme that was introduced near 2006 when a massive uproar came about, shattering the *chan culture to pieces. The idea is, that a person states previously they were informed that the other person 'lieks mudkipz'. Not many people like mudkip because he was a good meme, but because everyone told them too. Making it a forced meme. 1
:awesome: Originally a emoticon spawned from the Something Awful forums (like most content), redrawn and tossed about until it landed itself onto 4chan. The image itself is used to express a large amount of emotion as evident, but is most often used in an ironic situation. (Like below.) 1
NO U The only logical decision to use when an argument finds its way into your presence. Another spawn from Something Awful that resurfaces itself every time someone's granted the the opportunity to respond. 1
Gaijin 4Koma Four people that are edited to react to things in a way that people (often few, because they do it wrong) find funny. They're also known as "Reaction Guys". (But those whom refer to them in this title are not thought well of by the rest of the *chan community.) They are originally IGN reporters, reacting to releases at E3. 1
DOUBLE NIGGER I kid you not, it's the official title. The image is edited from an old Sonic The Hedgehog comic book, edited so it appears Robotnik is growing furious with his mechanical fish that cannot locate the cake it desires and proceeds to insist that the fish is indeed a "DOUBLE NIGGER". 1
DO IT FAGGOT Again another vulgar name, but the name says it all. This one is a macro as opposed to a meme, which usually features a single image style that is redrawn. A macro often leaves little room for mutation and so it must immediately take on the recreational stage at birth. "DO IT FAGGOT" is pretty much the best (and only) advice you're going to get from any chan site when threatening to preform an action. "DO IT FAGGOT" always features a face that is grinning wildly to show support for the notion. 1
88 MPH This is a reference to the DeLorean time machine from the film series "Back to the Future", as it's the speed that the car that must maintain in order for the "Flux capacitor" to enable the car's time traveling abilities. I wouldn't consider this a meme, however was worth noting. 1
Duckroll You have it here, the original image used to detour any person away from an enjoyable source of media. Before Rickroll, before "TayRoll", before every youtube user and their mother decided to upload (99% chance they decided to steal) a video that didn't make sense, called it a roll, then sat back and laughed at their imaginary wit. There's nothing I can think of that can describe this any better. 1
Phillips CD-i If you've been around for a while (or been near youtube for at least eleven minutes), you're bound to stumble upon something many call a "Youtube Poop". This is where a user takes a video and mashes the sound to produce juvenile statements a majority of the time. The source of the videos usually include the "Sonic The Hedgehog" cartoon that aired in the early nineties, the "Super Mario Brothers Super Show" and "The Ledgend of Zelda", and the various (but short in supply) Phillips CD-i games that Nintendo green lit the production on until the outcome evidently wouldn't be of the desired results. The poops themselves consist of consistent recycling of the same segment of a video until you grow to loath your younger years. An accurate description of a "Youtube Poop" would be: An Internet meme developing at a rapid speed until everyone has grown tired of the materials except for those late to the party still flaunting it's corpse. 1
Gentlemen Starring TF2's very own Spy, by taking the phrase "Gentlemen" from his response rules and stuffing in an extraordinary amount of cigarettes. Eventually got redrawn and then bantered about, they even got Tom Green to cooperate in their shenanigans. 1
Weighted Companion Cube Once more, not so much a meme but rather an internet phenomenon of obsessing over Valve's Portal. This was included as an item that can be moved (like all other un-stationary items in the map) with the "+use" command. Alternatively, it responds just as well (if not, more) if you were to attack it. 1 2
Yotsuba Koiwai 4chan's unofficial mascot, due to the character's four pigtails, green hair, and the chan's affinity for Anime. Multiple images of Yotsuba can be located around the map. 1
E/b/aums Partyvan The official title is the "Ebaums partyvan", but it seems Xenon was slightly misinformed. One of the vehicles that can be found around the map isn't as appealing as it seems. The "partyvan" will always show up at your doorstep and offer you a free ride to a party, however. It is used as an expression to state that a person has conducted so many unthinkable deeds, that they will be "vanned, V&, or partyv&". This partyvan idea was positive reinforcement for when the E/b/aums community and staff would occasionally visit (usually teen) chat sites to exert their own branch of online pedophile detection. 1
