Obtaining sniper achievements

Dominate an enemy Sniper.

Difficulty: Medium

How to: Try to go for snipers that are unaware of you. Sniping from places that aren't considered the "norm" can greatly help this. Just remember, you are also a target. The best way to hit other snipers is to run from your cover, zoom in, and headshot as quickly as possible with the Sniper Rifle, a task made even easier if they are wielding the Huntsman a long distance away from you, as it will be much more difficult for them to hit you. Don't bother charging up, as any headshot will kill a sniper that is not overhealed.

Kill a Heavy & Medic pair with the bow.

Difficulty: Hard

How to: Since you are using the bow, you will have to be closer to the pair. Since the medic is in the back, kill him first. The heavy probably won't notice. The heavy will be harder to kill because he is likely to be overhealed, keep your distance and the spread of his minigun will do minimal damage.

Get 3 kills with the Sniper Rifle without missing a shot.

Difficulty: Easy/Medium

How to: Be on RED on a CP map, and await people when you zoom in. Heavies that are firing are a good bet for this. Those don't have to be done in one life, just without missing, so just take time to aim for head/charge.

Provide an enemy with a freezecam shot of you doffing your hat.

Difficulty: Easy

How to: Attack any spies that you see lurking around your spawn, and if you kill them with your Kukri, taunt as soon as you kill them. Just be wary of other enemies.

Get backstabbed 50 times.

Difficulty: Easy

How to: Spies are always looking to backstab unaware snipers. If you want to help this achievement along, don't use the Razorback if you have it. Otherwise, you'll get this with enough time playing sniper.

Kill an enemy with an arrow while you're dead.

Difficulty: Hard

How to: This achievement requires either good timing or good luck to get. An easy way is to find an enemy Heavy and get him to shoot at you with his minigun. While he does this, charge up your shot, aim for his head, and get ready to shoot when you are almost dead. If done right, you should shoot the arrow just before dying, and kill the Heavy with a headshot soon after your death, getting this achievement. An alternate way to achieve this is to bind a key to "explode" or "kill" and press it after you fire an arrow, but before it hits. The greater the distance separation between yourself and your target, the better your chances.

Destroy 3 Engineer sentry guns.

Difficulty: Easy/Medium.

How to: A fully charged sniper shot will destroy a level 1 sentry in a single shot, and do incredible damage to a level 2 or 3 sentry. A great way to rack up sentry destructions is to work in tandem with another sniper, and fire as soon as your partner fires. 2 fully charged shots will destroy any level building if done fast enough to avoid the engineer repairing them. Headshot the Engineer first to get him out of the way if you need to.

Kill a Scout in midair with your Sniper Rifle or the Huntsman.

Difficulty: Medium/Hard

How to: Scouts aren't the sniper's natural target, but are still a target. This is done easiest on 2fort. Be on the sniper deck, and wait for scouts to jump across the bridge, and try to pick them off in the air. Be ready to be a easy kill for enemy snipers, however.

Kill an opponent within the first second of the round.

Difficulty: Very Easy

How to: Charge your shot before the setup gates drop, and as soon as they drop, fire at someone with a headshot. Your fully charged shot will kill any class without an ÜberCharge. Enemy snipers trying the same thing are a good target, as they'll be standing still waiting for the gates to drop just like you are. Just be sure to fire first. A safer method is to look for a Sniper that isn't looking at you, and then take him out. Note-this can be achieved any time in the match as long as you're in your spawn room.

Extinguish a burning teammate with your Jarate.

Difficulty: Very Easy

How to: Simply throw your Jarate at a teammate who's on fire. This can also be achieved by extinguishing yourself, by throwing your Jarate at the ground while on fire.

Capture the flag in CTF.

Difficulty: Easy/Medium

How to: Snipers don't excel at flag running. Make sure you have your SMG to defend yourself, as the Razorback and Jarate can't help you. Also make sure to equip the Huntsman, as it provides you much more mobility. You can get this easily by asking a teammate to drop the flag near your flag, and run it the last few feet. It's also possible to do this by creating your own server and simply carrying the flag to your base.

Jarate and then kill 3 enemies with your Kukri.

Difficulty: Hard

How to: This one is tough. You have to throw Jarate that hits three enemy players, and then kill them all with your Kukri. It is definitely a situational achievement. It can be made easier if you have a Medic Über/Kritz you, or if you do it while you have the crit buff from your team capturing the intelligence. Remember, it cannot be three separate players, but all in the same group, all hit with the same Jarate.

Use Jarate to reveal a cloaked Spy.

Difficulty: Medium

How to: If you ever bump into a cloaked spy, quickly switch to your Jarate and throw it at the floor. You may have to guess at his path after bumping into you. Alternatively, you may spot a cloaked spy while waiting to respawn, since at the time you're in Spectator mode and can see cloaked spies on either team. If so, when you do respawn, throw your Jarate at the spot where you saw the enemy Spy. If you're lucky, he may still be there. Cloaked spies, especially those who have the Cloak & Dagger, may also be found on control points past the one currently in play, hoping for a quick capture after the previous point is captured. Try throwing your Jarate on these control points as well.

Note: Throwing Jarate on a cloaked spy on fire will trigger this achievement as well.

Kill a rocket or grenade-jumping enemy in midair with your Sniper Rifle or the Huntsman.

Difficulty: Hard

How to: Position yourself across from a high ledge that requires a rocket jump, such as the bridge on 2fort, and hope a Soldier or Demoman comes by eventually. Don't try for a headshot; if your rifle is fully charged, you should kill him anyway, since the jump will already have done him some damage.

Note: It is possible to get this achievement if you shoot a Demoman or Soldier if he has stickyjumped or rocketjumped straight into water.

Kill 1000 enemies.

Difficulty: Medium

How to: This is a basic grind achievement, and while it will take some time, it's an easy one to get.

Kill 10 Spies with your Kukri.

Difficulty: Easy

How to: Your Kukri is your natural defense against spies, so this will easily start to add up as you play.

Top the scoreboard 10 times on teams of 6 or more players.

Difficulty: Medium

How to: Due to snipers earning 1.5 points per headshot, snipers will quickly climb the scoreboard. Your biggest competition is other snipers, so try to play on servers with class restrictions on Sniper. This is also possible on Arena if you are leading as a different class. Switch to Sniper, rush in, and get some assists if possible.

In a single life, kill 3 enemies while they achieving an objective.

Difficulty: Medium

How to: Position yourself near a capture point or payload cart, and wait to snipe your target until he is on top of it. After you do, other targets on the point may scramble, so be prepared to retreat and try again once you're repositioned. You may be lucky enough to see someone standing still on a point, or crouch-walking near a cart. Take advantage of this. Alternatively, try to search for Spies trying to capture a control point or move the payload, unaware of any dangers nearby. Then get up close and chop him into pieces with the Kukri (this can also apply to Scouts)!

Score 5 Assists with the Jarate in a single round.

Difficulty: Easy

How to: Throwing your Jarate bottle into a crowd will rack up assists, so launch your Jarate bottle at the enemy spawn when the setup gates open to cover a wide range of people, and let your team do the rest. You can also try to douse the payload cart or a capture point.

Headshot an enemy player the moment his invulnerability wears off.

Difficulty: Medium

How to: If you're far enough away from an invulnerable target, they will likely not be paying attention to you. Slowly follow them until their charge wears off and fire. Heavies work best for this. Don't try to shoot the quick Medic unless his overconfidence in his UberCharge leaves him standing still the whole time. You can also headshot a Scout that is under the slowdown effect of Bonk! Atomic Punch.

Hit an enemy with 3 arrows, without killing them.

Difficulty: Medium

How to: Spam arrows at an unaware Heavy, especially one who is overhealed, and you should get this achievement.

Jarate an enemy and the Medic healing him.

Difficulty: Easy

How to: Find a Medic hanging around the payload cart or a capture point, and aim your Jarate directly at him. They're always healing somebody, so as long as you hit the Medic, you should hit his target as well.

Take down an intelligence carrier with a single arrow.

Difficulty: Medium/Hard

How to: On Turbine, hang around your flag area and snipe them with the Huntsman as soon as they take the intelligence. Or simply aim across the open expanse in the middle and try to hit them as they run back inside. Keep in mind that you can kill 125hp classes with a single charged arrow.

Jarate an enemy that you're dominating.

Difficulty: Hard

How to: Get a domination on a slow-moving Heavy or a less skilled Sniper. Once you do, add insult to injury with the Jarate. You can tell who you are dominating by the target symbol next to enemies in the scoreboard.

Jarate 4 enemy players with a single throw.

Difficulty: Easy

How to: Throw your Jarate bottle into a crowd and hope it hits 4 people. This is best done at the start of a CP map when you are on RED, when all of BLU tend to congregate around the setup gates. Capture points and payload carts are also good choices. If one of the enemies is a Medic, you will most likely get the "Rain on Their Parade" achievement as well.

Headshot 10 enemy Snipers.

Difficulty: Easy

How to: Easily earned after a reasonable amount of time playing Sniper. Aim for the head and don't bother to charge, as any headshot will kill a non-overhealed Sniper. If you find yourself getting killed a lot, move to a different location, or try killing more Snipers again later.

Stab an enemy with an arrow.

Difficulty: Easy to Hard

How to: Find an unaware enemy and kill him with your Huntsman taunt. Depending on their cooperation or lack thereof, this could be easy or difficult. This is somewhat easier than other taunt kills, as it only takes one second for the arrow thrust, and as long as your target's momentum doesn't carry him out of the kill zone before you pull out the arrow, you'll get the kill. An overhealed Heavy may survive if he has over 375 HP. Another method is to simply hide around a corner and try to time a withdrawal just as an enemy approaches, which will instantly kill your target. This is the fastest taunt kill, so use it on busy snipers that stands still, or any other unaware players like that does a taunt.

Kill a Spy whose backstab attempt was blocked by your Razorback.

Difficulty: Hard

How to: If your shield is destroyed, pounce on the Spy with your Kukri. Make sure not to show him your back, in case he recovers before you kill him. Most decent Spies will not try to backstab you if you have a Razorback, however; they will merely pump you full of Revolver shots or shoot you in the head with the Ambassador. Therefore this is a difficult achievement to obtain.

Kill a fully invisible Spy in a single hit.

Difficulty: Hard

How to: Sniping a fully cloaked Spy is generally pure luck. If you want to try to get this one on purpose, try to look for tell-tale shimmers of cloak, and shoot where you think the Spy will head. Aiming for ammo pick-ups is a good bet (only if the Spy is using default Cloak device, and not the Cloak & Dagger). Charge your shots to increase the chance that you will kill the Spy if you don't hit his head, which you probably won't. Also try shooting at control points past the one currently in play, as Spies tend to try and grab control points as soon as the previous ones are captured.

Headshot an enemy Demoman.

Difficulty: Very Easy

How to: As long as you do indeed kill everyone you meet, eventually one of them will be a Demoman. If you're having trouble with this, try to find one standing still near a group of sticky bombs and take him out from a direction he isn't looking.

Provide an enemy with a freezecam shot of you waving to them.

Difficulty: Very Easy

How to: Kill someone with your sniper rifle and taunt. Simple.

In a single round, kill the same enemy with 3 different weapons.

Difficulty: Hard

How to: Make sure you have the SMG equipped, or this will be extremely difficult to get (you would have to kill an enemy Spy with your Razorback, which would only happen if the Spy attempts to backstab you with low health). Try to appear as though you're sniping, but don't zoom in. When a Spy approaches you, kill him. Then repeat with two other weapons. There are a lot of novice Spies around thanks to the update, but this is still difficult to pull off.

Note: This achievement can also be obtained by assisting other players. For example, if you have wounded an enemy Heavy with your Sniper Rifle and friendly Spy backstabs that very Heavy right after you hit him, you will get 1/3 of the achievement, but the weapon that you killed the Heavy with will be the Butterfly Knife. The same goes for other classes, as long as you get the assist.

Attacking a player that ends up suiciding (e.g.: splash damage, typing 'kill' in console) also counts as a separate weapon towards this goal.

Get 5 kills with the Sniper Rifle without your scope.

Difficulty: Medium

How to: A no scope shot will do 43-57 damage, so it's best to only use it if you're sure it will kill your target. Since you don't have to do all five kills in one life, just take any opportunity you can to kill while unscoped, and eventually you will get the achievement. Don't bother aiming for the head; that only increases damage while scoped.

Kill a Medic that is ready to deploy an ÜberCharge.

Difficulty: Hard

How to: Once Medics get a charge, they tend to deploy them at the first chance they get. Join the RED team on a payload map and find a Medic at the gate. Most of them will have a charge ready when the round starts, so once the gates open, kill him before he can deploy it. Despite the logo for this achievement, you are not required to use the Huntsman.

Pin an enemy Heavy to the wall via his head.

Difficulty: Easy

How to: Make sure your Huntsman is fully drawn, and aim for the head of every Heavy you see, especially if said Heavy is standing near a wall. Eventually, you will kill one and pin him to it, earning you the achievement.
