Party Mode is the successor to the birthday mode in Team Fortress Classic and is activated on servers that have disabled blood. Its intended use is to celebrate a player's birthday, festive occasions or simply for fun.

August 24th is the release date of the original TFC, and every 8/24 since, Valve has placed party mode on all TFC servers for that day. On August 24, 2008, the tradition continued as all TF2 servers were also set to party mode for the day.

Enabling Party Mode

Party mode can be enabled by setting tf_birthday 1 in your Server.cfg

Changes in Party Mode

  • Every player wears a party hat.
  • When shot, you bleed balloons.
  • If you are blown to pieces, you explode into streamers and confetti instead of blood, and your gibs turn into presents.
  • Whenever you achieve a critical hit, you hear party horns, champagne poppers and people cheering and clapping.
