Seperate Achievements Pages

Would it be a good idea to seperate the achivements and place them on seperate pages? For example, have a page for the general achievements, a page for the medic pack etc., and then a page that links to them all. This may cut down on load times, because at some point this page will have over 350 achievements on it, which means over 350 images.

- Natemus 1 May 2008
It would be a very good idea. I'm actually trying to merge the regular achievements page with the obtaining achievements page, then seperate the Medic achievements into their own page, but the obtaining achievements page seems to be bugged. Does anyone know what's wrong with it?--Wilsonator 13:33, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
Last time it opened when I traslated it... Is it the largest page? - Kurtis (7 June 2008)

Sentry Gunner

Noting this here in order to preserve the format of only including the achievement text on the actual article.

In order to achieve Sentry Gunner, both the sentry AND the engineer must survive. That is to say, the sentry must get 10 kills within ONE life of the engineer. If the engineer dies, and the sentry is still alive, the counter resets. It's currently unknown if this is intended, or if it's a bug. -- WanderingFox 08:12, 27 November 2007 (CST)

It's an interesting question that, I still don't have this and play engi loads. However I've only played Sniper once or twice and almost have the 25 headshots so that poses a few other questions: Should they have lowered the headshots and made it only achieved in one life or raised the Sentry Gunner and made it overall? I personally think two different people were tasks to do each and both interpreted it differently, that's what usually happends.. -- Aurora 08:57, 27 November 2007 (CST)
I do not believe this is true. I believe I obtained my SG achievement with only the SG staying alive. Wildfire 07:42, 31 December 2007 (CST)
The difference is one is an 'accumulate x actions' while the other actually states that they must be done with a 'single' sentry. The way TF2 does 'best stats' is by round (ie, from spawn to one death). The sentry gunner achievement is linked to the 'most kills by sentry' stat, while the sniper one is simply a counter. There are however, a few people who have the achievement, but not 10+ listed in the most kills by sentry stat. This was caused due to unlocking the achievement (as above), but not having stats recognized (occurred during beta a lot). -- WanderingFox 09:26, 27 November 2007 (CST)
Noticed that ive got up to 8 then got ubered anyone willing to die 10 times in a one on one for me ??? lol--markdeadlydavis 03:19, 3 December 2007 (CST)
Well most the achievement have to be set in one live or they dont count, and this one isnt that hard just depends one your team, and the ppl coming in, as in spys are a pain and you need a pyro to help you out. thats how i got i think.--No Body Dreag 12/09/2007 3:36 AM
The way I got mine (mind you this was back in beta when stats weren't saving right, but achievements were), was to hop onto a 24 player server, and then build a sentry someplace no one would look for it (under the exit in gravelpit for example) and then just pray 10+ people run onto it before they blow you or it up. -- WanderingFox 09:14, 9 December 2007 (CST)
I died three times today while my gun racked up the necessary kills so its 10 kills with one sentry gun regardless of the life of the engineer who built it. --markdeadlydavis 11:12, 18 December 2007 (CST)
Really? They may have silently fixed it on their end then. I'll have to do some testing on it. -- WanderingFox (Talk • Contribs) 12:09, 18 December 2007 (CST)

Just published the official Valve statistics which shows that this achievement is one of the rarest that people have (next to "Head of the Class", which is interesting because when I first got it I wanted to try every class for the changes and this was one of the first I got). --Aurora 12:55, 9 December 2007 (CST)

A lot of people don't play through a FULL round with each class... They spawn as say scout, and end up as pyro half way through the match. You need to play from before round start to after round end to add that class to head of the class :P -- WanderingFox 13:36, 9 December 2007 (CST)
True, but still, the only class I don't really play is Heavy and that's only because I'm useless at it ;) --Aurora 14:51, 9 December 2007 (CST)
You and me both, but that's because the heavy is underpowered. They really ought to add a knockback to his minigun (same as the syringe gun) -- WanderingFox 15:55, 9 December 2007 (CST)

Head of Class

I did not get this till I played a class for 50 mins even though it says you just have to play one round. DontEatRawHagis 11:14, 21 November 2007 (CST)

It's one COMPLETE round. That is to say from start to finish. So from round start, until after sudden death. If you change classes, even at the start of the round, it won't count. You need to be the class before the round starts. Similarly, you can't get this on the first round you play on a map unless you were there before the round started (ie you spawned during the 'waiting for players'). -- WanderingFox 11:44, 21 November 2007 (CST)

Do we want to rate how easy or hard these are or techniques for achieving these eg best map for 5 pyro kills (got that last night BTW) or 10 sentry gun kills etc--Markd 06:02, 23 November 2007 (CST)

It seems that they have made changes because I got a progress message thing after joining a game and not changing class until the end (ie, I was that class for the whole time I was in that game but I wasn't there the whole game) -- Humbug 07:09, 17 April 2008 (CDT)

Secret achievements

What about them? -- JanisB

They're a secret.

Just kidding, there aren't any- the only new achievements other than the ones listed are the class specific ones slated for coming patches by Valve, starting with the Medic. --Wilsonator 16:46, 1 December 2007 (CST)

Do you think they'll have some for the Xbox 360 version? I really hope so. If Orange Box didn't have enough achievements already (99 total) they'll add more. I wonder what they'd be like? 20 kills in one life kinda thing? Sadly, I don't think we'd get the achievements. They've only released 2 patches for the Xbox 360 version since release.--CountDOODOO 17:19, 1 December 2007 (CST)
I'd assume so, though they can't be worth a ton of gamer points. I mean they're adding 36 just for the medic. Assuming they do that for all classes TF2 will end up having 341 total achievements. -- WanderingFox 20:33, 1 December 2007 (CST)
I think Hypocratic Oath means that you kill a Spy not heal a spy and kill him. It just seems to make more sense. DontEatRawHagis 11:27, 4 December 2007 (CST)
We'll find out in a week or two, now won't we? :P -- WanderingFox 11:30, 4 December 2007 (CST)
I hope so but it prob if you heal a spy and he kill some one. Like in the here Team Fortress 2 Spy Bug or Feature?, or maybe something more... I hope more. and i hope more for Demo and Spys.-- No Body Dreag 3:45, 12/09/2007
I'm sticking with my theory, the picture shows a dead spy with 'health' bleeding out of his neck, similar to the healing beam from the medigun. This leads me to believe the Spy was healed and killed by the Medic and is now leaking the leeched health back out. =P --Wilsonator 03:51, 19 December 2007 (CST)
That's the type of reasoning that makes you go see the psychiatrist as a child :P -- WanderingFox (Talk • Contribs) 07:40, 19 December 2007 (CST)
This is exactly what I would love to know. If the 360 players are going to get the Achievements along with the extra weapons and maps. Because if they don't they're going to let down an entire SLEW of people that bought it for consoles. I for one know that if they don't I'm going to complain until I can buy the PC version. Even though my computer won't run it.... =( --Jewbat 17:01, 30 January 2008 (CST)

With Friends Like these...

Perhaps we should organize a TF2 wiki group match and try and get this achievement? Could be fun.--Wilsonator 16:44, 1 December 2007 (CST)

My achivements page would love you for it :P -- WanderingFox 20:32, 1 December 2007 (CST)
Count me in! -- Nos 11:31, 1 December 2007 (CST)
Me four --Aurora 16:01, 2 December 2007 (CST)
Me five --markdeadlydavis 03:19, 3 December 2007 (CST)
Me six is there a TF2Wiki Community or will I have to search for all of you to add to friends list. DontEatRawHagis 10:13, 3 December 2007 (CST)
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/TF2Wiki -- WanderingFox 10:19, 3 December 2007 (CST)

If you organize group, gather people, play, get "with friends like these" and then leave group - achievement will NOT be counted and remain unachieved... JanisB 09:15, 13 December 2007 (CST)

Well, I think that went fairly well. =] Turns out the seven players don't have to be on your team so I edited the achievement to that effect. --Wilsonator 16:29, 9 January 2008 (CST)
It went fairly well for you, you got the achievement; five of us didn't and then you left :$. I personally feel used and abused :p --Aurora 12:41, 10 January 2008 (CST)
If you need me to help out again, I'd be more than happy to. I had to bail due a small crisis (our washing machine suddenly started leaking :P) -- WanderingFox (Talk • Contribs) 13:53, 10 January 2008 (CST)
You gave my wife a shock with all those chat invites last night--markdeadlydavis 10:03, 10 January 2008 (CST)
Sorry Mark, tell her she should have joined us and not been playing Peggle :P --Aurora 12:41, 10 January 2008 (CST)

Medic Achievements leaked

Pictures and Requirements but no official names: http://www.quate.net/tf2medic

I think I may just wait until the official update rather than crop all those pictures.

Btw: It turns out I was right about Hypocrital oath, hah!--Wilsonator 05:28, 31 December 2007 (CST)

Wow, 36...This is good, maybe people will now select Medic instead of a sixth Engineer....maybe.... :| --Aurora 07:14, 31 December 2007 (CST)
All the images are in the gcf... You can find them in the Hammer texture browser. The names listed are the names valve gave each achievement image. --Slythfox 1:01PM, 1 January 2008 (PST)

Advice?

How about adding some advice on how to achieve the achievements? like, for example, two ways to get Sentry Gunner; firstly, play on 2fort, because the time limit on other maps is often what makes it hard to get SG on those maps, secondly, one particularly good killing zone for an SG is the little hut first CP on the second stage of dustbowl, by putting an SG on top of the little hut (where the two health packs and two ammo packs are) during set up; an SG up there, reasonably support by team-mates, has one of the best chances in the game of getting the necessary ten kills.

Sentry gun is easier with two engineers working the same area if one dies the other repairs / covers the others back. Had lots of kills with an SG using this technique--markdeadlydavis 02:41, 2 January 2008 (CST)

Actually of course the value of some of these achievements is varying as Valve modify the game. Getting SG when the Spy sapper was more powerful was of course harder. Wildfire 07:53, 31 December 2007 (CST)

Id say a separate page on how to achieve these may be of help it shouldn't clutter the achievments page. Ones like inpenetrable defence could form subsections for the relevant map page etc.--markdeadlydavis 02:41, 2 January 2008 (CST)
What do i call the extra page ? Achieving achievments sounds really really naff and with 30 odd new ones coming there will be no space on the page for advice as well--markdeadlydavis 05:55, 2 January 2008 (CST)

Medic achievement VTF files.

The medic achievement VTF files now exist inside of the TF 2 Materials gcf file. I don't currently have the means of converting them, but we may want to update the ones here with the proper icons, and get all of them loaded and ready. The full path is: tf\materials\vgui\achievements\ in the "team fortress 2 materials.gcf" file. --WanderingFox (Talk • Contribs) 12:37, 29 January 2008 (CST)

Good find. I've got 'em converted to PNG, and I'm uploading them now. Original filenames, original size, lossless conversion process (VTF -> TGA -> PNG). --Southpaw018 17:52, 29 January 2008 (CST)
ACK. After uploading, I suddenly take a closer look and see that the texture export is messed up. Holy cow :( ...well, I've got them in. I'm going to leave them in anyway. I'll figure out a way to fix the pictures. The problem is that these VTFs use a brand new VTF version, 7.4. --Southpaw018 18:18, 29 January 2008 (CST)
That was the problem I was having... I couldn't find something that could handle VTF 7.4 images. Maybe I'll get bored enough to fix them (the only issue is the first 1/3 of the image is actually the last 1/3 of the image, so it's just copy and paste). --WanderingFox (Talk • Contribs) 18:57, 29 January 2008 (CST)
I was bored enough :) I've just done extracting them, I'll upload one and take a look see if I've fixed Southpaws icons. By the way SP, you can export straight to PNG without having to export to TGA first. --Aurora 19:12, 29 January 2008 (CST)
Yep that's fixed them, I'll update the rest now, this might take some time.... :[ --Aurora 19:15, 29 January 2008 (CST)
Update: All done, didn't take as long as I thought it would. --Aurora 19:39, 29 January 2008 (CST)
I just thought, maybe you don't know how to handle them and would like to (bit ignorant of me if I didn't share the info with you). Although they are 7.4 versions, the file format essentially remains the same but with a few additional features. Because of this you can manually degrade them to older versions by using a hex editor (this also applies to any texture not just these). Extract them as you would normally with GCFScape and then open the VTF file into a hex editor (I like using Notepad++ with the Hex plugin because I can open lots of them at once, but Hex Workshop or any hex editor will do) the 4th byte (zero based, offset 0x0000004) is the major version, in this case 07. The 8th byte (offset 0x0000008) is the minor version, which will show as 04 - ie version 7.4. To degrade it change the 8th byte to 03 and save the file. Open it in VTFEdit, presto, no errors. You can then Export direct to PNG, no need to do the export to TGA and convert it. h4x...me?...never!... :) --Aurora 20:08, 29 January 2008 (CST)
Thought about that, but I was too lazy to hunt down the revision values in the headers of all them :P Thanks tho ^_^ --WanderingFox (Talk • Contribs) 11:05, 30 January 2008 (CST)

Thoughts on the New Medic Achievments?

Sorry if what follows is badly formatted, feel free to fix it up. - Fedora.Pirate 22:07, 12 February 2008 (CST)

Bonesaw Medic

I think this one might actually be kill an enemy medic, if you look it's a medics skull. Though perhaps that's just so it can be a skull and cross bonesaws - Fedora.Pirate 22:07, 12 February 2008 (CST)

Bonesaw Nomisses

I feel that then 10 in there will mean something; perhaps kill 10 enemies or hit 10 times with the bonesaw without missing *shrug* - Fedora.Pirate 22:07, 12 February 2008 (CST)

Charge Blocker

I think this one might be use a counter ubercharge to stand in the way of an oncoming ubercharge (on some asymmetrical maps as defence this is very effective) - Fedora.Pirate 22:07, 12 February 2008 (CST)

My guess on this one would be that it means blocking a capture point, ie. standing on the point while ubered to prevent it from being captured. --WanderingFox (Talk • Contribs) 22:56, 12 February 2008 (CST)
I love doing this, it really annoys the people that pop their ubers too early, I don't even fire and usually just stand there activating taunts :) --Aurora 07:13, 13 February 2008 (CST)

Medic Counter Charge

I think that this clearly has to do with charging or even ubering another medic; I just don't know what, thoughts anyone? - Fedora.Pirate 22:07, 12 February 2008 (CST)

I'd think it would be more like your description of the previous achievement. Use an uber to counter another uber. --WanderingFox (Talk • Contribs) 22:56, 12 February 2008 (CST)

Freeze Cam Ragdoll Are we sure this relates to the medic at all, this is the only achievement to have an image that in no way relates specifically to the medic. I feel it probably is just have the death cam on a dead opponent who's not jibbed. - Fedora.Pirate 22:07, 12 February 2008 (CST)

Yes, it's one of the medic achievements. If you go into the gcf files for TF2 you'll find it listed there as "Tf medic freezecam ragdoll.vtf" Also, it's required to hit the magic "36 new achievements" figure that VALVe has stated --WanderingFox (Talk • Contribs) 22:56, 12 February 2008 (CST)
Heres a thought this could mean succesfully gloat straight after a kill so that the player you killed see's it in thier deathcam picture ie you were killed by who will be performing a gloat--mark"d"davis 03:37, 13 February 2008 (CST)

Heal Huge / Heal Large

Heal 10/7 different players (respectively) in one life? - Fedora.Pirate 22:07, 12 February 2008 (CST)

Hypocritical Oath

Do you necessarily have to heal the spy first. I mean it's clearly a rip off of the Hippocratic Oath which is effectively not to let people get hurt so the opposite would be true here; hurt people (in this case a spy) - Fedora.Pirate 22:07, 12 February 2008 (CST)

Rapid Charge

Build up uber within a certain time (outside of start up) - Fedora.Pirate 22:07, 12 February 2008 (CST)

Simul Charge

Activate your uber at the same time as x other medics on your team - Fedora.Pirate 22:07, 12 February 2008 (CST)

It's either this, or ubering two people at once, but that might also be the multi-charge one. --WanderingFox (Talk • Contribs) 22:56, 12 February 2008 (CST)

As a note, I think it's pure speculation and may as well wait for Valve to describe them when they come out (which shouldn'y be too long). --Aurora 07:13, 13 February 2008 (CST)

Well duh :P --WanderingFox (Talk • Contribs) 08:31, 13 February 2008 (CST)
Speculation's fun though. I wonder why its taking them so long to release them after they announced them :( we could speculate on that for a while--mark"d"davis 09:47, 13 February 2008 (CST)
My guess? "Alright guys, the medic achievements are done!" "woo!" "now if only they meant something..." "Damnit Bob! Now we need to develop a game mechanic to match the achievementts..." or something like that :P --WanderingFox (Talk • Contribs) 09:59, 13 February 2008 (CST)
Now were talking "Guys ive got the mechanics sorted" -- "thats great did you stop them from achieving these on empty servers Bob ?" -- "err ill be back later"--mark"d"davis 10:04, 13 February 2008 (CST)

Nos, have you looked in to the community forums yet? The discusssion pages are a Spy! --Aurora 10:40, 13 February 2008 (CST)

I took the descriptions as listed at [1] and did my best to map them to the generic image names. Most of the icons tend to match the descriptions so I'm fairly confident I mapped them correctly, but I'm not certain. --Thervold 16:38, 16 April 2008 (CDT)

A Better Translation

Ubi Concordia, Ibi Victoria is When Concord, There Victory. Can someone get a better translation, just for the purpose of curiosity? Xenophunk 16:42, 18 April 2008 (CDT)

Hmm, well Latin doesn't always translate literally so this would be 'When there is harmony there is victory.' or even less literally 'In harmony, there is victory' . I knew I was studying Latin for a reason. =P --Wilsonator 06:51, 2 May 2008 (CDT)

Medic Achievement Bug?

Apparently the milestone achievements count towards the 36 that you need for the new weapons, dont think this was intentional but it does help for people who cant get some of the harder achievements.

Heavy is next?

Yes, Heavy has new speech files, but there's nothing abuot unlocks. Maybe someons write there names of these files? - Kurtis, 01 July 2008

Can anyone tell what does he says in these sound files ? --The_Scorpion 10:34, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
The files do not appear in english language versions. As convenient as this sounds, they are most assuredly in the french, russian etc versions and I have heard them. They are named

heavy_specialweapon01.wav heavy_specialweapon02.wav etc.

The sounds have been translated to phrases such as:

""Now Killing Cowards is even more Fun!"

"I have a new surprise for the babies!"

and

"Ahhh! My fists are even more powerful. Now they are made out of iron! Hahahaa!" (Knuckle Dusters perhaps?)

Also, check out this concept art: http://www.fightingamphibians.com/tf2/src/121488472065.jpg

Authentic?

Also, there are new alternate language voice files for the Sniper. However, these do NOT relate to a new weapon, they're just general responses.

"Also the heavy is talking about medals in the files: heavy_award01.wav till heavy_award16.wav"

It seems the Heavy may have reponses for gaining achievements too.

--Wilsonator 14:02, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Ok, it seems the Heavy's revenge (see Meet The... trailers) is coming soon :) - Kurtis, 01 July 2008
First, the BOFOR canon is a great art indeed but I dont think its official, and that is because with the pyro and the medic updates the primary weapon didnt change much : Blutsauger & Syringe gun ; Buackburner & Flamethrower, the models are so close...

Second, I think the Spy is the next one to get the update, why ?:

  • All the new updates have an anti-spy ability : Compressed air; Health leeching... So for balancing reasons the next will be the SPY
  • Those who havent got a "Meet the ..." video are getting the updates: Medic, Pyro, whos left ? SPY
  • Valve are trying to get players play all the classes, so they are updating the least played classes, notably: Medic, Pyro and SPY
  • The "Meet the Sniper" video hinted to the Pyro's flare gun before its release, noting that the next "Meet the ..." will the Pyro's, that mean we will see a lot of content to the Pyro's most favourite prey, the SPY

--The_Scorpion 18:02, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

You sir are a dreamer.--MrTwoVideoCards 18:36, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
OMG, all my theorie was wrong !! You where all right, the next pack will be the Heavy's....[2]--The_Scorpion 08:07, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Spy next ?

look at this

Nah...pretty convincing fake, but there are some grammatical errors, no images for the achievements, and the medic picture is an in-game screenshot...--UlmoSan 16:18, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
Agree on definite fake - riddled with grammatical errors and a couple typos. There's no way Valve would have something with writing this amateurish even at alpha stages. Besides, the next pack has already been officially confirmed as Heavy. --Southpaw018 22:51, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

UNlocks

Do unlocked things replace the actual gun (flare gun replaces shotgun?) or just add up to ur arsenal?
