Include the Posture
In each weapon article, we should get some screenshots of what the character looks like when they are holding that specific weapon. Valve said in one of their Developer Commentaries, that each character has their own unique silhouette when carrying a weapon. We should show at least that silhouette. What do you guys think?--CountDOODOO 08:23, 4 March 2008 (CST)
- If you want I can make "Silhouettes" for the characters ... but we could add the previous weapon images.
Here's a "silhouettes fight" image I made using the pics I croped and painted with the team's color like Wilsonator made with the 101 images...--The_Scorpion 08:11, 5 March 2008 (CST)
Class Pages are Weird
The class pages are all weird - you can't edit by section, something about a template or something. But trying to revert it to default is weirder, because it doesn't feel like taking out the templates. --Talon88 11:34, 11 October 2007 (CDT)
- Yup, they use a template so all the classes maintain a common look and feel. Makes for a much nicer experience for users of the site. If you want to make an edit, edit the entire page. Even if you're not familiar with mediawiki and templates, you should be able to figure out how to make small additions to a page. You can also visit some of the Help pages. -- Nos 11 October 2007, 10:51 (CST)
Change Class Pictures within individual class pages?
Found some very nice pictures of classes, (example picture link [1]), think we could use them? The page is in some scribbly language I can't read. (Main Page Link [2]) Looks like they came from the trailer, but I haven't seen that in a while. --MoQ 15:08, 7 November 2007 (CST)
- Nah, those pictures are from the first trailer- most of the character designs and weapons shown are very out of date. Wilsonator 16:05, 7 November 2007 (CST)
Add Auto-Taunts for each Class?
Do you think we should add a section for each class to list their auto-taunts? We already have the manual ones. I'd like to see the auto taunts in a separate column
from the manual taunts. For those that don't know, an auto-taunt is a taunt that is done after the class does something. That something could be a domination, a revenge, a capture,
a defense, a headshot, etc...
I'd also like to see a list of how to get your character to say those auto-taunts as well. Or maybe just list when the class says that specific taunt in parenthesis next to the taunt quote.
This sounds like a good idea. I've already made an article for response rules. We can flesh out out a bit more than the examples I provided.--Wilsonator 03:06, 9 November 2007 (CST)
We need soundfiles
We should include sound files for each taunt and response. We'll put the sound file right next to the taunt/response itself. It's not much different than what we did already to the "Meet the Class" with a transcript and the video itself. Anyone think they can add a few? Comments?--CountDOODOO 19:18, 1 December 2007 (CST)
- I'm a little busy atm, but you can find the files yourself pretty easily. You just need to open up the team fortress 2 content.gcf file and extract them (should be under tf/sound/vo/taunts) To open the files, you need to use the program GCFScape -- WanderingFox 20:38, 1 December 2007 (CST)
- I don't have the PC version, I own the Xbox 360 version. --CountDOODOO 21:19, 1 December 2007 (CST)
- It could be tricky embedding the sound files. The wikipedia player uses the ogg format so theyll have to be converted and i'm not sure if you can play sounds in wikimedia. --Wilsonator 06:27, 2 December 2007 (CST)
- We could put an external link to soundboards.com. They're a pretty good site. Someone could upload the responses onto there and then put up an external link in each response article. I think sounds like like a good idea. Comments?--CountDOODOO 08:41, 2 December 2007 (CST)
- It is possible to embed media files, including sound clips, however to do this it will take a lot of research and work. The OggHandler wikipedia extension would need installing, some additional CSS classes, new templates and finally looking into the copyright information of the audio files themselves. As they are original media and Valve hired actors to do them, I doubt they are free to use but I don't personally know. In short, it is quite a lot of work for little benefit. I don't say it's a bad idea, it crossed my mind as well, but at the moment I think other work needs to be prioritized. I, myself, like WanderingFox am currently tied up, in my case looking at standardizing the CSS styles and template formats...didn't realize it would take so much work :( Maybe in the future, or if someone else has some spare time it will get looked at. --Aurora 15:50, 2 December 2007 (CST)
- Ah, this kinda sucks. This person at the following= [3] put up a couple little taunts. Some are taunts but some are responses. I was hoping for someone to do something like that but I guess it does seem like quite a lot of work. I wish I had a sub-par computer that could just barely handle TF2. I would get the sound files that way. But the whole copyright infringement thing is really tricky. I was hoping someone could upload them and then I could use them on my Chatpad accessory for my 360. I would record a couple of cool responses and play them back over Xbox Live. Eh, it doesn't matter. The quotes are just as good. But is there anyone out there that could do this for us? --CountDOODOO 16:05, 2 December 2007 (CST)
- Ive found all the responses sounds and all the taunts, but the problem is that the taunts are composed of multiple sound files, i found this on the internet, you will find all what your searching for here(in WAV format)...Maybe i could help you with some of them... --The_Scorpion 05:55, 5 February 2008 (CST)
- Nice work Tarhar. I've been looking all over for something like this. Now, we could try to add it to each response (a little link to the voice itself) but Aurora said that might not work out. Which kinda sucks though. But I'm happy now because I'll be able to listen to all the responses. I don't care if I gotta do a little diggin' to find them bbecause it's all worth it. I love the responses in this game so I'll do the extra work to listen to the ones I haven't heard yet.--CountDOODOO 10:39, 18 February 2008 (CST)
- I have talked with Nos about the Soundfiles and he said that copyrights for the sound most likely won't be an issue. I am prepared to do some heavy editing to upload all of the sounds because I feel it would be worth it. However, I am unsure if I should upload them as mp3 or ogg. Nos said that wav would be the least desirable format due to file size and its effect on bandwidth. Does anyone have any suggestions as to which filetype to use? Also, if anyone has any suggestions on format, that would be awesome, too.--J2p2f2 22:09, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
Should we have Personal Motto
In Trailer 2, when the vid shows each class it shows a small personal motto right under the name of the class in small print. It would be just like what we did with each class and their favorite food/drink. It's in small print so it may be difficult to read. Can anyone help out by doing this in each class page? I'll try to do some as well.--CountDOODOO 07:32, 12 December 2007 (CST)
Include Hero
I think we should include a Favorite Hero under their bio. Like the Soldier, for example, would have Sun Tzu. The only problem is that I can't think of other heroes for the other characters. If we can come up with a few, do you think it would work out?--CountDOODOO 19:14, 17 February 2008 (CST)
- I hate to be the killjoy here but other than cluttering the page, what value does it bring? This isn't specific to your 'hero' idea but I've also thought the same about items like AKA, Favourite Food/Drink, Job, Motto, and Favourite World War. I mean I understand it's only a bit of fun but how can they even be remotely factual? Country of Origin and Special Ability are at least useful to identify with the Soldiers background and unique features and can be somewhat substantiated, the rest are just insupportable and pointless imho. --Aurora 05:07, 18 February 2008 (CST)
- Rrrr, you killjoy! lol. I'm J/K. But anyways, you're right the pages are getting a little cluttered. I especially noticed that people who are new to the wiki add their own strategies (which is good) but some should be moved to the Advanced Strategies. So what's the plan? Are we going to cut down the bios and some of the strategies? I personally don't mind if that happens. Too much useless bio info can't be good. We don't want to go overboard with the front class page. If people really want to we could add a seperate article for their bio. That might be fun. Call it a resume or something. I think that'd be pretty funny.--CountDOODOO 10:35, 18 February 2008 (CST)
- Maybe to prevent clutter, make a new page for miscellaneous random 'facts?' Just make sure that the wiki populace agrees that it is indeed a 'fact' and not an opinion. --Jewbat 22:38, 18 February 2008 (CST)
- I'm not opposed to having things on that are factual, I seem to remember reading somewhere that you got the Motto's from the trailers, is this true? (edit: like up the page in the previous section, lol, I should open my eyes) Include them, it's just that having subjective things like 'Favourite Food/Drink' are bound to get repeatedly changed by people, putting their own ideas in (as well as cluttering the page :p). I'm guessing the strategies you are referring to are on the Engineer article? Because I thought the same and was going to move them over but didn't know where to draw the line. I thought maybe having general strats on the main article, like a general class strats, general offence and general defence. Then anything complex, move to the advanced strat page? I wasn't sure so just left them as is for the moment. --Aurora 06:06, 19 February 2008 (CST)
- So should we start deleting those non factual things like favorite drink and favorite world war from the bios on the class pages? I'm all for it so if you're up to it too, you can go ahead and delete it. Also yes, I was referring to the Engineer article. I'm glad people add their own strategies but they seem to put it in the wrong spot. Is the Advanced Strategies article too hard to find? Should we make it more obvious to the reader? I don't think keeping at the bottom of the page will be very helpful. Most people never check down there. Sure, we've got plenty of goodies at the bottom but we may need to try to integrate a link to the advanced strategies section somewhere where people will notice it better.--CountDOODOO 09:08, 19 February 2008 (CST)
- Ive also been looking at some of these via http://tf2wiki.net/wiki/Special:Longpages see the engineer strategy. Perhaps the Engineer link on the front page could take you to a page with Bio, Weapons, Basic strategy and advanced strategy. Or as you say move the links to the top in a table format. All the strategy articles have crossovers of information with advanced stategies. Another thought here is instead of strategy and advanced strategy what about general strats and map specific strategies after all what makes one strategy advanced ??--mark"d"davis 09:33, 19 February 2008 (CST)

- Are we going to delete most of the bio information like nicknames, height, weight, favorite food/drink, favorite world war, and the little info piece at the bottom since they are all non-cannon? We'll keep the other stuff because it was in the trailers and other videos from Valve.--CountDOODOO 11:19, 24 February 2008 (CST)
- I think we should. There are some odd bits that are canon, like the Engineer's favorite equation and Soldier's favorite war, but I can find no official source for the height/weight information. Unless someone wants to go into the game and measure somehow, we should remove the rest. --Southpaw018 12:29, 24 February 2008 (CST)
- Yeah, equation and world war are canon, I don't mind if we remove the height/ weight/ food info, it was only estimated for a bit of fun, not too accurately I might add. =P --Wilsonator 02:14, 25 February 2008 (CST)
- As long as they have some grounding like the Motto's, I think it's ok to include them. The problem with the other things like Favorite food etc is that they are subjective and as Southpaw found out the other day, people just change them randomly putting in what they think is right/funny. As I explained above, I'm not wanting to be a killjoy but this is what happens when you have so many people editing and reading wiki articles. I just didn't want to get rid of them without people discussing it.
- Mark, with regards to the Engineer advanced strategy page being classed as a 'Longpage' - it doesn't concern me too much, it's not actually that long considering the size of some of the pages previously. The community scripts page got to be so long that people were struggling to edit and in some cases even view all the information, we're no where near this size yet for any article (now they have been split). It probably is a good idea to include a more visible 'signpost' to the advanced strat page though, I'll add one after posting this. Good point. --Aurora 05:50, 25 February 2008 (CST)
- I've created a new template called Main which works in the same way as wikipedias equivalent section template. You simply add a
{{Main|Medic strategy}}or whatever the main articles name is below the section header. Click the above link and read the documentation for further details. I've also updated all the class articles to include it. --Aurora 10:14, 25 February 2008 (CST)
- I deleted most of the non-cannon bio stuff. From now on, anything in the bio must be cannon. Find it in a Valve developer interview or from the game itself. Example: We have no idea whether the Demoman is from Ullapool (sp?) Scotland. We do know from the "meet the Demoman" that he's from Scotland when he says, "I'm a black scottish cyclops". Therefore, saying he's from Scotland would be considered cannon. Just thought i'd throw that out so we're all clear now (even the new members).--CountDOODOO 14:04, 26 February 2008 (CST)
- It says he's from near Ullapool in the official Valve Bio. Also, I reasoned the Sniper is from Sydney because he uses very localised slang terms which are only common in the Sydney area.
Voice Actors
I recently discovered that there is a list of TF2 voice actors at the back of the instruction manual for The Orange Box (the 360 version, at least), including which characters they voiced. Do you think that it would be worth including this information on the pages of each class? AAAAAARRRRR 13:32, 13 March 2008 (CDT)
- I would be interested in that information. Would Voice Actor be a worthy attribute for the class template? I'd support it. --Wipnum 23:34, 13 March 2008 (CDT)
- Well, if anyone needs it, here are the voice actors.
- Gary Schwartz - Heavy/Demoman
- Grant Goodeve - Engineer
- Nathan Vetterlein - Scout
- Robin Atkin Downes - Medic
- Dennis Bateman - Spy/Pyro
- Rick May - Soldier
- John Patrick Lowrie - Sniper
- I think it would be worth including this information somewhere on the Wiki. AAAAAARRRRR 19:56, 17 March 2008 (CDT)
- Thank you, AAAAAARRRR. Editors, how do we best add this to the class pages? Stick it in the BIO section? It's "fourth wall" stuff. --Wipnum 21:03, 19 March 2008 (CDT)
- Oh sorry, missed this discussion. Yeah include it in the BIO, I don't think the class templates would be the right place for it. I'll do it shortly unless someone beats me to it. --Aurora 03:32, 20 March 2008 (CDT)
Speed issues
Just noticed this, but do you think we should use the Spy's backward speed for the reference rather than the forward speed? --Jewbat 22:40, 18 February 2008 (CST)
Spies DEFINITELY run slower than snipers, with no disguise --Party escort 11:14, 15 October 2007 (CDT)
Can someone check the speed of a zoomed sniper? Everybody knows they're very slow, but exactly how slow? Sn-ahkond 12:44, 10 April 2008 (CDT)
