Talk:Critical hits
From TF2 Wiki
I posted a more detailed and implementation specific article on my web site http://www.mrlwork.com/?p=19 about critical hits. --Redcomet 16:38, 8 December 2007 (CST)
Do anyone know if critical hit give more damage to buildings or not? (Phanco)
- yes they do the damage scenario is exactly the same it takes 4 ? rockets to destroy an upgraded sentry or 2? critical rockets something to bear in mind if you have a choice of uber partners the one higher up the leader board is more likely to crit --mark"d"davis 10:38, 8 February 2008 (CST)
- Crits do NOT effect buildings. It will always take 3 rockets to destroy an unguarded level 3 sentry. Also, the leader board has nothing to do with critting. Crit rate is either 5% or around 20% and which one it is is determined if you've killed multiple people in quick succession recently (ie. the amount of damage in a short period of time) (the amount of time the 20% crit buff lasts is dependent on the weapon I believe). Also, the link to the Robin Walker interview that explains this is now dead. I'll see if I can find the new link. --WanderingFox (Talk • Contribs) 12:05, 8 February 2008 (CST)

Backstab
I don't think we should categorize backstabs as critical hits, although I agree it's confusing. Backstabs do much more damage than 3x normal, they are not "critical when fired", they are not based on random probability or past performance, etc. A "proper" backstab with the custom knife animation will look and sound like a critical hit, but I think this is laziness on the part of the developers who didn't want to make a separate "Backstab!" audio/visual cue. - If you win the match and start stabbing with the butterfly knife it performs the backstab animation every time, as all attacks in humiliation are crits. The 3x normal statement comes from testing, for example no one knows the flamethrowers crit damage stats--mark"d"davis 07:49, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
- At least on the PC, that has not been my experience. The backstab animation does not occur any more often than normal during humiliation. Terr 23:33, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
- actually backstabs are crits. and so are headshots. I'll prove it, if you start a server and change the critical multiplier to values like 0 or 1, If you want zero crits just set the crit chance to 0. Backstabs and sniper headshots are considered crits and the crit multiplier applies to them. Which proves that they are crits. Not to mention the audio and visual cue is pretty much rock solid proof. Who ever said that critical hits have to do x3 damage? there is no rule to how much more damage a critical hit will do, it can range from any number. There are different kinds of crits, ones that are random, and ones that are triggered, like a backstab and headshot. But they are critical hits, just not the standard type of crit. Image usage from the TF2 Blog?
Shortly after the February 2nd TF2 update, a TF2 blog update explained the changes to the critical hits section. In that blog post, they include a graph of the percentages to get a crit based on recent damage you've dealt.
I've added this, but is it really alright to add stuff from the blog? I know some of the images from the Trading cards were from the blog, but... --Powerlord 04:42, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Mini crits
I never seen this confurmed anywhere. Do mini crits ignore damage falloff?--Pearlsea 05:03, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
- Judging from the Ambassador and Jarate's effects, it would appear that mini-crits do seem to share this behavior with their 'big brothers'. -- Balphezar 05:14, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
- I think we need a minicrit on enemy image, like the crit on Soldier one... Anyone care to do it? Smashman 11:58, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
An update today fixed the mini crit close range problem, among other things, and as such, I have updated the page. SixTwoSixFour 23:35, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

According to Steam Forum Memember 'Zig Zag Zooka', Mini-Crits are affected by damage ramp-up and damage spread, but not falloff due to distance. Here were his findings on the matter:
- Beyond Mid-Range (512 Hammer Units or Further): 151 Damage -> 90 (Base Damage - Rockets) * 1.25 (Direct Hit - +25% Damage) * 1.35 (Minicrit - +35% Damage)
- Point-Blank (0 Hammer Units): 189 -> 90 (Base Damage - Rockets) * 1.25 (Direct Hit +25%) * 1.35 (Minicrit - +35%) * 1.25 (Maximum Damage Ramp-Up - +25% Damage)
I have copies of his e-mails I can forward to you -- Balphezar 03:59, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
Blutsauger
With recent updates the Blutsauger seems to roll normally for critical hits, so it should be removed from the exception mentioned on this page. -- Kid Of The Century 16:20, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
