To Do for Map terms edit - watch
  • Add Pictures for each term. Include something (like an enemy) in the image and in the caption, put an example of how to call it out with voice chat.
  • Add more terms.

Why do we need 99% of these terms defined? Sky? Water? Cave?

I thought that this page was going to be the common names for areas of particular maps (which I think would be infinitely more useful). See below for an example of what I was expecting (and I think the page should be transformed into).

2fort
Battlements The deck above the Front Doors of a base. Snipers often hang out there. There are signs inside the base directing players to the area.
Basement The underground area of a base which encompases the Intelligence room, a Resupply area, and connecting hallways. It can be reached using the spiral stairs that begins between Grate and a respawn area. Not to be confused with the Sewer.
Front Doors The two doors to each base that are on the ground level as you approach from the bridge.
Grate The area above where the hallways just inside the Front Doors merge. Players can see through the grate and there is a hole in the grate where players can jump down, [[rocket/grenade\rocket jump] up, or shoot through.
Intelligence Room The room in the Basement of a base that contains the intelligence.
Sewer The tunnels below each base that start from the water under the bridge and end at a staircase leading up to the first floor of a base. There is a small room at the intersection of two sewer pipes that contains ammo and a health kit.

Hopefully that gives you an idea of what the page could be.

I agree, it should be terms that are unique to the game, and probably include some abbreviations and in-game slang. It should only be things that a new player wouldn't immediately understand. Spayced 17:37, 25 January 2008 (CST)
I believe it is historical information that was added when the wiki was in its infancy. It could certainly do with updating though, however be careful not to duplicate information that is already on the specific map pages (as the location sections have most of the info above). --Aurora 22:12, 25 January 2008 (CST)
I've had chance to have a look at this and while I agree that a few terms can be removed because they are obvious (wall, room) I don't agree they should be changed to map specific terms. The reason I am saying that is because each map has a "locations" section which contains the same information you have listed above. That information shouldn't be duplicated because if one get's edited by someone, another edit will need to be done on this article and will more than likely be missed. The article description may need updating though to make it clear that they are general terms used in voice communications. New players to the game may find it useful for reference if they hear something in game they aren't familiar with. As an example, sometimes when playing 2fort they may hear the term "in the yard". This is ambiguous and could refer to the outside bridge area which is referred as "Bridge" on the 2fort article, but could possible mean either the bridge or the room between the ramp room and the entrance (not listed on the 2fort article but should probably be referred to as the "lower lobby"). This article defines a "yard" as "Any ground-level area between a base and the middle of the map" which disambiguates the term for the new guys. Does this clarify the reasons for the article and why it doesn't list specific map terms? If so I will update the description and make it clear to view the map articles for specific map terms (as well as do a clean up of the article). --Aurora 14:03, 28 January 2008 (CST)
I agree with Aurora. I had not looked at the map specific pages in a while and forgot that these map terms were already contained there and should not be duplicated here. I still think that many of these terms should be removed and would be obvious to just about anyone that speaks English. I just looked at the list again and I would remove all sections except for Team-related terms. In the Team-related terms section, I would remove Bridge, Lower lobby, Upper lobby, and Gate. I think everyone knows what a bridge or gate is and if you know what a Lobby is, then you should be able to determine the difference between the Upper/Lower lobby. I'm willing to clean this up to help out but since it's a drastic change, I want someone else to give me the OK. --Creepy 11:36, 29 January 2008 (CST)
