I think this is really useful to new players, however as this is effectivly the same list as Achievements with added how to's - would it be better to consolidate the two in to one article? --Aurora 09:07, 3 January 2008 (CST)

I thought it better to make it a new section as we have had to split the class pages in the past. As the achievements list grows longer so would the tips in the end a new page felt the right thing to do. Its also a common question on the forums. Map positions for sentry guns, sniper spots etc may be added at later dates as new achievements get added by valve--markdeadlydavis 09:13, 3 January 2008 (CST)
I thought the same, especially if they are going to have the same amount as 36 for each class. But in that case both the articles would need to be updated, duplicating work. My thinking was that for the moment, have one article, when it get's bigger, then split into "General achievements", "Medic achievements", "Sniper achievements" etc, similar to the Scripts. I don't have an issue with multiple articles, I was just trying to cut down on the amount of work that would need to be done when new achievements get added. With regards to the last comment, I'm not suggesting we lose any information youve posted - it's valuable to people as you say, I just mean adding all your details to the Acheivements page--Aurora 09:55, 3 January 2008 (CST)
That makes more sense Aurora esp when i copied and pasted the achievements page to create the obtaining page, i also prefer the How to title--markdeadlydavis 10:01, 3 January 2008 (CST)
Are we going to move this back to the achievments page as a set of How to notes underneath every achievement ? the how to's look short enough and i cant see them being expanded anymore than they currently are --markdeadlydavis 10:13, 9 January 2008 (CST)

Head of The Class

I noticed the comment about "cheating" by creating your own server with a short time limit. I was under the impression that they issued a patch that you could only get the achievements when in a real game (I think there was some minimum number of players that had to be online). I had a quick look through the patch list but didn't see anything. Can anyone confirm? --Nos 10:28, 3 January 2008 (CST)

I was under the same impression, I know for definate that if you run your own server and set sv_cheats to "1" it does de-activate acheivements (and tells you in the console) but as I usually have sv_cheats enabled when running a local game I couldn't say if it is de-activated when the server starts. --Aurora 11:31, 3 January 2008 (CST)
No, any server that's listed in the server browser with stats enabled can be used to unlock achievements. I've tested it myself and it does indeed work, though sv_cheats must be disabled. -- WanderingFox (Talk • Contribs) 14:51, 3 January 2008 (CST)
By empty server I mean any one listed in the server brower, this does work as I used it to get the Dustbowl defense achievement after it failed to register when I achieved this annoyingly difficult achievement- twice!--Wilsonator 15:49, 3 January 2008 (CST)

Master of Disguise

Is it announced to the server when you achieve it? Seems kind of detrimental if that's the case. (Medic heals soldier. "Fluffy has obtained the achievement 'master of disguise'", Medic kills 'soldier'). Hashamulm 12:59, 3 January 2008 (CST)

It was, but it was fixed, only people on your team can see you obtain achievements. -- WanderingFox (Talk • Contribs) 15:55, 3 January 2008 (CST)

"Acheivement Servers"

I've seen some acheivement servers, and I've stuck around to the ones i thought were legal, but there's one called "Instant Achievements" where you can just type a command in console or chat and then you get the achievement, no-strings-attached. I didn't feel comfortable doing this though so I didn't, it was VAC secured so if someone wanted to I guess it would be legal. If I ever get stuck on one I might just do that. The existence of these servers should be mentioned (for the lazy people) imo.--Prox 03:09, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
