Talk:Spy-checking
From TF2 Wiki
Some changes
I took out a few entries that were added since I wrote the article.
- An engineer running around with only a shotgun.
- Just plain wrong.
- In the heavy's case, being healed really fast by a medic.
- I can't say for sure this is false, but I've seen medics on occasion heal actual teammates very quickly, and I'm not sure why. Taking it out unless somebody can verify it.
- Someone with your name using the Medic call
- Redundant.
- An enemy spy will show as having 50% health level when you look at him, regardless of his actual health. His health level will not appear to go down if they shoot him, but will appear to go up if a medic heals him.
- Again, this one is a little tenuous. I've seen spies with varying amounts of health; there's no rule that they always have 50%. And shooting your teammate doesn't work, because you wouldn't hurt a real teammate with your shots anyway.
- I was going to add that the only things that alter this is when he gets healed by the enemy's dispenser or a medic. But you already did. --Jewbat 15:27, 5 February 2008 (CST)

- I'm going to re-add the health bit with some modifications. A Spy who disguises himself will automatically display 50% health - a smart Spy will fool an enemy medic or find an enemy dispenser to remove this telltale sign. The clue is that no Spy can ever display less than 50% health. I found this tip very useful. --Joffeloff 01:54, 7 January 2008 (CST)
- First off, an engineer running around with a shotgun out and not by a sentry in home territory is most certainly a dead give away. Secondly, the spies health is variable from anything just above red to full. They'll never spawn with red health, but they can be any level. With that said health levels are still an indicator of a spy. If they have half health and fail to pick up a med pack or ignore one that is near by, they're likely a spy. --WanderingFox (Talk • Contribs) 18:01, 5 February 2008 (CST)
- I play Engineer like that occasionally, if I have defensive cover I will go wandering with my shotgun. It doesn't mean they are a Spy, just 'gonna hunting' and I don't run around with a wrench but I will fire a shot or switch to wrench to identify myself. --Aurora 03:25, 6 February 2008 (CST)
can someone check the voice chat part its seems far to simple that pressing V and seeing either a speech bubble or lack of speech bubble pop up as a spy check--mark"d"davis 05:00, 5 February 2008 (CST)
- Why? It's a really simple and effective spy check, if they are a Spy they can't do this (they can only shout Medic and get a heal speech bubble). --Aurora 06:15, 5 February 2008 (CST)
- it just seems way too simple write a script that activates V for a fraction of a second every so often unless the key is pressed and no more disguised spys can get through just cloaked ones.--mark"d"davis 06:32, 5 February 2008 (CST)
- Already done it, or similar. Someone asked me to write a script the other day that toggles mic active permanently. He plays for a clan and they use Ventrillo rather than in-game comms, and reduced the mic level to 0. The end result is that their entire team walks around with speech bubbles, anyone that doesn't have a speech bubble is obviously a Spy. A novel idea and pretty much neutralizes the Spies disguise, whether legal I don't know, but then again I'm not the one using it. --Aurora 07:00, 5 February 2008 (CST)
- I nearly said that the clans are bound to pick up on this, do you reckon it will get patched ?--mark"d"davis 07:05, 5 February 2008 (CST)

- I doubt it, they never did in TFC or CS and the same applied to them. If the mic is left open in a public server the other people get annoyed and start abusing the offender, besides, unless their team-mates know what it means and everyone is using it, it becomes pointless. It would only work in clan games and in that case it will be up to the league/ladder admins that add a rule against it, not Valve (in Valves eyes anyway). --Aurora 07:18, 5 February 2008 (CST)
- Although I will add I'm not going to post the script and will remove similar sort of scripts (not just for voice but anything that gives such an unfair advantage). --Aurora 07:22, 5 February 2008 (CST)
Signs that indicate an enemy Spy
I've removed the following from the article:
Being ignored by an enemy sentry is no indication that a player is an enemy Spy, nor does being healed by a dispenser. If anything, these are indications to suggest that they aren't spies. -beep 11:42, 6 April 2008 (CDT)
- Hmm, I didn't realize that cloaked spies can be healed by dispensers. I'll clarify this.
