Sticky Longtivity

When I play sometimes my stickies just disappear. I dont think I blasted them. Could they have been destroyed? DontEatRawHagis 17:33, 20 November 2007 (CST)

  • Two possibilities I can think of
  1. Did you lay more elsewhere? any more than 8 and they will start being replaced (starting with the 1st you laid)
  2. Did you move away from the ones you laid, come back and they were gone? This could be that someone shot them away, another demoman can push them away with his own explosions or a shotgun could move them. This might have happened and your stickies been pushed out of sight rather than just disappeared. -- Aurora 16:00, 21 November 2007 (BST)

I've noticed the same thing happening recently... not only did my stickies dissappear, the counter for the number of placed stickies decreased from when I last checked. I also noticed recently that shooting stickies with my pistol (when I was playing as an engineer) caused the enemy stickies to wink out (like they do when a demoman who places stickies then dies, only it happened to the particular one I was shooting.) Maybe it's a new machanic that sticky bombs can take damage and be destroyed, perhaps to prevent them from being irremovable when placed in corners. Mr.RedDragon 17:28, 6 January 2009

This is a deliberate update and was mentioned in the December 11th 2008 patch - "Any weapons that fire bullets (shotguns, sniper's machine gun, heavy's minigun, etc.) can now break apart the Demoman's stickybombs". There you have it. Minty Fresh Death 23:25, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Critical ?

I know there is a critical damage for sticky grenades... but why arent they mentioned here ? --The_Scorpion 13:04, 14 February 2008 (CST)

we need damage listed here proper fashion The Unbeholden 09:16, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

Erroneous Critical Damage?

Is the minimum critical damage for a sticky really above 300? I've had instances where I've critted a Heavy, and he survived. Maybe he was just overhealed, but can anyone confirm? -beep 00:16, 7 April 2008 (CDT)

I play as Demoman a lot, and it seems to me asthough the damage dealt depends on how close the enemy is to the bomb. I only ever seem to kill Heavies with it when they stand directly on top of it. All other times, they just tend to fly away from it a few feet with about 200 damage or something. AAAAAARRRRR 00:43, 7 April 2008 (CDT)
Indeed, stickies rarely make a direct hit, even if your aim is true they will probably bounce off and detonate a bit off target. As such these weapons rarely do their full damage, which is likely the reasoning behind their relatively high base damage (FireCrack 14:16, 6 May 2008 (CDT))
In which case the minimum damage listed is false, if the damage can be as low as 200. This needs to be fixed. If anyone here can test to see the lowest damage possible with a critical sticky, then please write here and show your findings ASAP. I'm going to add this information to the critical hit page so there is more information on splash damage, and that it can affect critical hits. I've found an old article that has the lowest possible critical rocket damage, so the rocket launcher is done, however the lowest critical hit damage for the grenade launcher and the sticky launcher are still really high. We need further testing done to have accurate values. The Unbeholden 16:45, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
I've tested it out, critical stickies can do less then 200 damage, from what I've seen it goes as low as 180. So blast radius falloff has been tested and proven, but needs damage range testing. -The Unbeholden 09:28, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
Tested critical damage close to the target at half way distance, 260 damage is what I got. The Unbeholden 03:11, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

less sticky

Is it just me or are sticky bombs a little less sticky since the pyro update ? i ask cause ive blasted 8 clear off a CP last night with a rocket, im sure that before it took more than one rocket (it was not a crit)--mark"d"davis 13:01, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Damage listing

It says on this page the sticky launcher does 90-140 damage, on the Demoman article it says it does 108-160. which is the correct value? Edit. doing some checking through the Demoman article, shows this change to the Demoman article occurred, by Rockn-Roll from the Dec 24th 2007 testing. I'm guessing this is more up to date then the old damage listed that was added at November 9th 2007 on this article, which was copied straight from the Demoman article, written by Promii on October 1st 2007. I'm surprised this wasn't updated until now. The Unbeholden 16:27, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Zig Zag Zooka started a server with bots, and used the mimic command, and fired stickybombs at a target. With Nocrits, so the damage variables would not be tainted. he did 1 000 tests, and came up with interesting results. http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=728813 according to his tests, the lowest damage done on a sticky with no crit is 74, highest damage done is 153. standing right on top of a sticky didn't do any more then 153. I'm going to add this soon if nobody has any problems with it, hes done some vigorous testing, we don't need any more then 1000 tests. The Unbeholden 18:18, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
Doing crit splash damage would be the next thing on the list of testing. The Unbeholden 18:24, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
he mentioned that once he did 57 damage, once. where the sticky went a bit off target, which proves that there is damage falloff, not how far you fire it, but how far away you are from the epicenter of the blast. Perhaps splash damage can be listed separately. For now we will keep the base damage. And make a note about splash damage, and how it can effect the base damage. The Unbeholden 14:03, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
I've confirmed this, damage values seem to range smaller the further they are from the target, i've gotten 47 as my lowest from my testing. I testing damage by detonating it from a distance away from the target, 6ft (max range) 3ft (half way) and directly underneath. I used a bot with the net_showevents 2 command, while detonating them at a enemy heavy. Wrote down the health, amount. The Unbeholden 04:35, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

Sticky Grenade Launcher?

according to valve loadout menu, which has the correct weapon names. The name of the weapon is called the Stickybomb Launcher, not a sticky grenade launcher. I think we should change the name of this page, but the problem is we would have to change the name of all of the links to this page which would be a bit of a bother but I think accuracy out weighs annoyance. The Unbeholden 12:16, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

We wouldn't just have to change all the links, we would have to tear down this page, delete it, and replace it with an exact copy, except for the name, as well as change every link that leads back here. More than an annoyance, I assure you. But I understand where you're coming from. -- Balphezar 18:34, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
its already been done, check the name of this page LOL. it was pretty easy. it wasn't torn down, it was simply cut, and pasted into a different article, the existing article was not deleted. but simply replaced with a redirect link. It proved alot easier and quicker then i expected. All those links that lead back here will be redirected to the new page. Saved alot of work, and most of those links have slowly over time been changed (though not really neccesary) just to make the name of the stickybomb launcher more widely used so people don't get confused on the real name of the weapon.
