3rd June.

Just back from my holidays and my skills are down a bit but an enjoyable few games on the new GL server mainly play as a medic. Encounter the world’s worst heavy on Dustbowl. There we are defending the CP and that voice comes up with “the control point is being captured” I uber him and he…wait for it… runs out the door towards their spawn. I hear laughter on the mike and I am going err come back please.

So were back defending the next point again its dustbowl and I have had enough of healing kamikaze players so I go sniper. I’m on a roll 4 headshots in a row and then theirs a puff of smoke in the corner of my vision I track across the screen and shoot into empty air, down goes the cloaked spy I’m feeling pretty cool until I turn round scoped up on a rocket, at least I saw my pancreas.

Tried to grind a few more medic achievements but a griefer comes into the achieve box, its late I have had enough nite nite.

4th June

Only an hours play cause the kids were arguing can’t they see I am playing. Decide this is an ideal time to grind medic stuff and get the spy ones and am well on my way to killing 50 medics. The daft ones still remain and I can see no way of getting these on this server. A griefer shows up and sets up a sentry by the achievement box spawn grr manage to get out as a spy and return as a disguised heavy to sap his turret he’s not very good and with continual sapping it blows up he then manages to shotgun kill me. I respawn he is trying again but the turrets not up I sap it and back stab him. Its then off to his spawn 5 backstabs later he quits. A bit more grinding (I hate you valve cause I love the medic) and it’s off again.

5th June

Bit of a blast tonight on Goldrush did not manage to get the team working so we could not win. This map is almost impossible on offence if you don’t co ordinate your pushes. Must be one of my favourites cause when you win it’s as a team. Still amazes me how many people run past the cart! Its pretty good for a soldier run out rocket jump and start shooting those sentries while you are up in the air superb fun, all sentry gun positions I have seen can be bypassed and destroyed from range by demo’s and soldiers provided they rocket / sticky jump past them. Then spent 20 minutes farming achievements (be pleased when it’s over) I found a guaranteed way to get triage as well with a demo and medic got a few thanks for that one. No more playing till next week now though only 9 achieves to farm now as the others will come with time in normal play.

7th June

Well I got an hour to kill this morning so it was back to a bit of grinding on the impossible ones. Did the punching heavy and syringed some scouts before quitting. Quite fun if you are actually getting the odd achievement. My main thing is go on server, promise people triage if they help me out as not many people have worked out how to farm this one and then get some help for one of mine. The hardest is going to be the demo man uber and five engineer buildings.

8th June

Quick blast on 2 fort healing snipers on the deck and then going into gold rush on defence. Healed a few to uber and did not die. We were now defending the last point so having built up my chance to crit on a no offence policy I spawned as a soldier. So here is a great tip as a medic you hardly ever attack anyone (an engineer can do this as well) but you keep earning points so after a while your chances of critting go up but you have a terrible weapon to crit with. So here’s the rub die and respawn as a soldier or other offensive class. You come out spewing crits I fired 3 crits in a row it was awesome the kill reports were full of my name taking out multiple opponents. Superb stuff I even managed to dominate the opposing team’s best player. We were then on offence I’ve been in some poor teams but I counter ubered a heavy at the door way and he stood still while I ran off grr damage drop off we got nobody. That was enough no friends online at all so I quit for the night.

10th June

Another try for the last few farming achievements, maybe valve will give them to everyone when the Pyro ones come out. I should say that trying for these has improved my medic play as you actually have to think a bit more about how you actually play and what effect it has, but you do stand the chance of severely annoying people when you go farming for them. I reckon the Demo man one is the hardest to get with normal play or farming in an achievement box as you need two engineers and a demo man to help you out not easy when everyone else is after their own achievements. Played Duel duel 3 for a while this is always a blast as the only objective is deathmatch. I then went onto the GL server and had a few rounds with the clan most enjoyable but I wasn’t playing that well tonight ended up with three nemesis out of six so not playing well at all, couldn’t settle on any class as we were playing 6 vs 6. I did notice that every time I went Soldier I won more but still got dominated much more than usual. I blame the rest of my team for being rubbish none GL players. Played gold rush, has anyone else noticed how rubbish sentry positions are once you know your way around the map? I took out loads just by going the Spy routes as a soldier and firing four rockets at range. I’m starting to understand why clan play is dominated by soldiers. I must learn to reload more often and switch to the shotgun as I keep trying to load rockets and fire at the moment. Finished of the night in an achievement box and after helping a few people get their achievements finally got that demo man one. I only need to farm three more achievements and that’s the grinding done (the rest will come with time or like second opinion and autopsy report when I remember.) Playing again tonight lets see if we can get an impromptu scrim going for some serious playing.

11th June

Got quite a bit of play tonight, started on yet another achievement box heard a great joke. I years to come we can all tell valve how much we really enjoy being on these achievement servers. One guy responded with “ive been in here for 2 hours please let me go play a real game. I was waiting to see if any of my friends would come online and when they started coming on I quickly switched. (not m,any left to get now). I must say I played badly tonight for quite a while. Ended up on the NUB server and we were losing at goldrush badly just no defence at all. The GL server started attracting a few so we did some one on one lots of nemsis and dominations until the server filled a bit. Heres a thing in a 3 on 3 or 4 on 4 that Tab key is your friend if it shows the opposition as all or nearl;y all dead you can hit the spawn and as described last night indulge in the guilty pleasure of spawn camping, we did not quite get the sentry up but it was fun for a while. It was then onto Dustbowl on attack. It was 4 vs 4 and I made the suggestion why don’t we go from the right hand side and stay quiet abouit it. So we hid arround the corner and when the gates opened poured out looked across the canyon to the 3 guys hiding next to the other door a few laughs on the mikes and we ran into the CP taking out the sentry with my uber and taking the point. By now the opposition was pouring in and most of my team went head on while I sneaked out the back and captured the other CP. The next stage as wqe all know is much harder so we used two medics and ubered our way to the first CP and took the next with just a minute remaing. Now it was onto the part of dustbowl you rarely see and we were being pushed back quite severey and they had “that” sentry in position. My technique for this one is to rocket jump onto the CP and then get to the area at the bottom of the stairs which is just out of range and send four rockets at this sentry, with all the spam it took a few attempts until we finally capped the point, We were now in a war of attrition and it was 5 vs 5. We got pushed back by some great demo and heavy play and a good sniper. I soon realised that we could see their entire team fighting near to the first CP. Desparte times call for desparate measure I went spy my LPC. It took two attempts to get past while cloaked and I was soon on the final cp I went to the back crouched against the wall and broke my disguise, a heavy came out the door but my postion meant he could only hit the top of my head and with the minigun having such a spread I surviced and captured the point.

14th June

Quick am blast on a DM map. Basically a very large circular arena with doors on two levels you randomly spawn behind. Takes a while but eventually I get out the door for some revenge killings. Tried to farm another achievement and whil e stoof their as a medic with an uber I got banned for life from the server WTF !. I play a bit more and now only have one achievement left.

15th June

Decide to just play some dustbowl and end up in a 2 on 2 match as heavy medic. The opposition pop their uber early twice in a rwo and quit. So a quick one on one spy game of hide and seek and its off for the night.

16th June

My wife leaves early so I pop online just to see if I can get that last achievement. Let myself get blown up a few times before persuading someone to go pyro. 5 seconds later the last two achievements pop up to a few wow he just got the last one well done and its off to work without even trying out my new saw. I don’t think I will ever go for this grinding again it been just to many gaming sessions with no fun at all. Next time ill be playing to win watch out!!.

17th June

Heh people on the GL server lets go play. Pretty boring game to be honest so I finally bite the biullet and try out that guy who disappears but always bursts into flames so easily. Play for about an hour and ive got the cloaking and skulking along corridor walls bit sorted, its sapping that’s really got me. I never realised how quickly an engineer swings that wrench.

18th June

A much much much better night. Pop ontoi the server and select Red its dustbowl. I see 8 out of 12 players are engineers. WTF ! I switch teams and go spy. I adopt this policy of sneaking to the spawn and sapping 8 teleporters, run to the sentry guns and sap those while the engineers replace their telpoters. Im racking up some huge points and having great fun. We do keep losing until we have four medics four soldiers and demos a couple of spies and some snipers. Someone starts saying “got an uber” we all end up wrunning arrouind crying got an uber. We change levels it goldrush and again its engineer city. This tactic works and we just cant get through, have you ever tried to take down 5 sentires at once and then push past before the other engineers fix things ?? its very very hard. On goldrush I go soldier, im not following the scoreboard but know that as one rocket in four’s a crit im doing pretty good. Stand on the roof of our spawn on the fist section and take out a few. Then I have the most awesome minutes play of my life. The cart is nearly touching the final point, the woman is screaming about how close it is. I hit tab and my team is dead apart from a medic and me, they are 80% alive, all is doomed unless I can defend the cart. A heavy a pyro , a scout a medic and a soldier appear. I know that to stop them I have to be next to the cart. Drop in my medic picks me up , scout dead, medic dead, spy (cloaked) dead. Soldier hits me but im buffed so survise. Circle the cart while hitting R crti the soldier and the pyro together and then crit the heavy and the cart is clear. I then fire my last few rockets into the choke points killing another player and the game goes into overtime for 5 seconds and we win. I sit back in my chair realising I held my breath while that was going on. Bouyed by my success I play for few more hours having a quick blast demo jumping across goldrush and practicing my backstab on snipers on dustbowl, i think I ight like the spy after all.

24th June

Well I read the above and realised just how much I hated farming, grinding asking for help to get all those medic achievements. So I looked up the bot commands that you can use on the console and set up my own server. About 40 minutes work later and ive unlocked the axtinguisher and can now go and actually play a game rather than go box hunting for people to help me out. The other good thing is that I may get other achieves while actually playing to win now. Join the GL server which is kind of quiet with 6 of us on their. I go heavy as thiers a medic. We go to A and are busy capturing and im keeping these scouts at bay, they close in and the Kritzcrieg starts ive got 20 ammo, im out of ammo, I hit Q and as I taunted in set up my fists come out and they are scouts, were dying were laughing, the scrren fills with funniest thing I ever saw “you tried to punch scouts WTF” , the scouts are just typing lololololol, I start resenting my excessive use of the Q key. (hint if you ever fighting me force a weapons swithch and I am as good as dead) Takes us a while to recover, have quite a blast on hydro (for a change) but on the one flavour of hydro we all spend a few minutes just trying to find out which way to go but that’s hydro for you. Play for about two hours (not very well) things really did go downhill after the critical punching incident. Lets hope for better standards tonight.!

25th June

To anyone who played with me I appoligise, to the medic who ubered me as a soldier im sorry I missed with both rockets and shotgun. To the enemy spy whos fire I put out just before he backstabbed me, thank you ithough the 6 pyros would stop you. The best thing though was actually ending up in a proper sudden death with no respawning etc. Its been so long I forgot how much fun this is and cause my team totally rocked it was even more fun. The key in sudden death is to stay alive and kill at least one of the opposing team. Keep tapping tab to see who is in charge. If you team is losing out try harder to stay alive suicide pushes will not help you. I did my bit by hanging out at the back and sniping a few targets, then went and helped a few friends get some achievments before playing HL2 for a while.
